I know it’s been awhile since I have shared a Random Act of Kindness but International Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 9-15, 2015. While I haven’t stopped doing Random Acts of Kindness, I just haven’t shared them since they didn’t seem extraordinary enough to share. However this past week I came across a post while experiencing the rabbit hole that is Facebook last Saturday.
It lead me to the website Donors Choose where teachers can ask for certain supplies like books, technology or for field trips. You can also choose to find a class near you to help which was what I did.
As a very avid reader I couldn’t imagine my life without reading everyday. For kids it can open up their imagination, offer them an escape, or just show them different ways life could be. For kids in a high poverty area that could possibly be overlooked, one teacher decided to find them books that are easier to read for their reading level but wasn’t childish. What a gift for those kids.
Thanks to the Kernels of Kindness grant I received I was able to make a decent sized donation to the cause. A few hours later they reached their goal. What an amazing feeling to be able to help those kids find the joy in reading.
It is so evident how much this teacher cares from the comments and posts she provided to each donor. Such a great cause.
Do you plan on doing a Random Act of Kindness this week?
Are you considering doing your own Act of Kindness? If not, what is stopping you? Grab a button if you would like to spread the word. The change that we seek in others has to first come from within. This year I hope you decide to Be the Change You Seek.

Great ideas. Keep sending out the love and light and positive energy. I like to randomly give people a $20. Like a good server in addition to their tip. A girl I know at a deli who works hard and has done so for years. It’s not a lot but it is always welcome.
Happy Friday Eve!
Love, SMD’s Monma
Kerry says
Thank you. That is so nice of you, I am sure they really appreciate it. Every bit counts! Happy Friday Eve!

I totally support this cause. That’s awesome. I’m glad you found it! It’s nice to connect with things that have meaning to you and be able to help someone else enjoy something you enjoy.
Kerry says
Thanks! It was such luck. I like that I can support a local school that really needs the help and when it involves books, it’s a bonus.
Nichole says
I feel like crying, this is so awesome. You’re right, I would have been lost as a kid without books…I love that you donated!!
Kerry says
Thank you. Books really can change your world, i am glad they are getting a chance to experience what we did as kids.
Lauren says
What a great idea and a new way to help your community! That teacher sounds like a great one, too, so wins all around!
Kerry says
Since I don’t have kids in the school it’s my way of still helping. She is so enthusiastic and clearly loves teaching so I was glad to help.
Heather @ My Little HEA says
I went to leave a $ in my library book when I returned it Monday but I felt like you could tell something was in there and the librarians would be the ones to find it so I didn’t. I’ll have to see what else I can do this week.
Kerry says
I think that is a great idea, I would put it in a book on the shelves though.
chelsea jacobs says

This is really lovely.
Kerry says
Thank you. I think it’s so important to support our teachers.
kristen says
oh kerry, this is SO lovely. seriously. I couldn’t imagine my childhood without reading, and my husband is a teacher for special ed and some of the children are at very low reading levels, so this is just simply amazing. you are so wonderful! and yes, i’m crying.
Kerry says
I didn’t mean to make you cry! 🙁 It is so important to get kids excited about reading, it trickles into so many aspects of their lives.
Kelli says
I love this, reading is so important and this is such a great way to make a difference!
I took a ladies shopping cart back for her at lunch the other day even though I had told her I didn’t need to use it myself, I will call that my RAC for the week! 🙂
Kerry says
Reading really can change a person’s life. That is really kind of you, and I am sure she appreciated it!
Amy @ The Crazy Wise Woman says
This is so wonderful! I love that you did this. I have been thinking that what I should be doing right now instead of wallowing in my own self pity is finding a place to volunteer some time. That much I can give! You are awesome!
Kerry says
Thank you. Giving of your time and yourself is always a good thing. It doesn’t hurt to put good juju into the world. Everything comes full circle.
Jana @ Jana Says says
This is amazing. I love that you chose to give books. They literally can change and/or save a life.
I need to start doing some of these. I’m terrible at remembering, even when I remind myself.
Kerry says
They really can, and shaped my life. I think just being aware is good, and if you see anything then just do it. Help carry someone’s bags, return carriages in the parking lot, give food cans to the local food pantry, see a college kid at the coffee shop and give them a giftcard. Every little bit helps.
Kay R. says
I mean, this is amazing!!! So cool that you did this. I always say I am going to get more active and then I never do. I need to change that immediately!
Kerry says
Thank you. There are always ways to help, just open your heart to finding them, and most will find you.
Stacia says
This is so wonderful, Kerry! I’ve missed seeing these on here. Causes like this are definitely something I can jump behind!
Kerry says
Thank you. I’ve missed posting them, though I never stopped they tend to be spontaneous and for some of the same causes.
Amanda says
Random Act of Kindness Week… how perfect for you! I love that you donated to this… I agree with you – reading is important and I can’t imagine having been a child without the option of discovering how much I actually LOVE it.
Kerry says
I know a whole week, so perfect! I can’t imagine not having access to books, or not knowing how to read. It is such a big part of my everyday life.
