Guys, this recipe can not get any easier! It is only 4, count them 4 ingredients. This is a great way to get a Steak and Cheese Sub without the big honking bread wrapped around it! This can be customized with your favorite toppings , like grilled onions or peppers (it would change the carb count, but not everyone is counting carbs). I was trying to keep the carb count down so I went pretty low key.
Ingredients: Pita Pocket ~ Steak-Umm Sliced Steak ~ Parmesan Cheese (not the powder kind – freshly shaven is best) ~ Frank’s Red Hot Sauce
Directions: Place 2-3 of the Steak-umm slices into a heated pan. Heat until completely browned and cooked through. Drain to remove excess grease.
Spray a pizza pan or cookie sheet with Pam or other cooking spray. Top the Pita with the cooked steak. Drizzle with some hot sauce.
Cover with Parmesan cheese shavings.
Place in oven on broil until the cheese melts, approximately 3-5 minutes but keep an eye on it. Fold over and serve. I served with a small side salad.
What are your favorite toppings on a steak and cheese sub?
Willing to give this a try?

Thanks! The hot sauce really added a nice kick!

Why didn’t I think of this?! We really try to limit our bread intake (don’t get me wrong, I LOVE bread, but my hips do not, ha) so this is perfect! Thanks for linking up with Jess and me!

I could eat bread for days but I try not so this is my alternative. Saves a bit but still get to enjoy a Steak and Cheese “Sub”.

Great idea to use a pita pocket! I’m going to have to remember that. And I love any recipe that has just 4 ingredients 🙂
Kerry says
It really saves on the amount of bread. I am all about simple, can’t go wrong! Hope you try them.
Tami says
Oh my gosh. I don’t even really like phillies and this looks awesome. I know my bf would go ape for it!
Kerry says
Thanks! Hope you try it! You can use the same idea for any “sub” you want, chicken salad, Chicken Parm, meatball, Italian. Enjoy!

I am excited to try those pita pockets, not a big beef fan but if i filled that bad boy with chicken it would be right up my alley!
Kerry says
This would be great with Chicken too! You can really add any “sub” filling you want!
Helene says
I’m not big on steaks but this is something I might really try!
Kerry says
You should! Substitute the steak for chicken or another protein source you want!

Ok, this is awesome! I have a steak sandwich post coming up soon too (with sauteed onions and mushrooms) and I’m photographing it today and taking the results to Adrien for lunch at work… It’s a surprise so shhhh don’t tell 😉 Oh, and thanks for the heads up about the link up! I kind of did it wrong (wish it would show my name and blog name), but oh well! 🙂
