Isn’t it really Monday? I did realize that due to a switch in our company holidays we have Good Friday off so I am a little excited to have a 3 day weekend coming up. I don’t have anything planned either other than a get together Friday night so hopefully I can finally work on some yard work. I know my life is exciting, don’t get jealous! I am getting ahead of myself though, here is what I did this past weekend:
Saturday: I spent the morning getting some chores around the house done and reading for a bit. Then I headed out to get a gift for tomorrow’s baby shower. I know I really leave it to the last minute but after the million and one birthday’s this month it is catching up to me. Then I hit the trails. I came across not one but TWO snakes when I was on the trails. It about gave me a heart attack but of course I had to snap a picture.
Then after the huge hill at the end I saw this tree blocking the trail so choices are left, right or over ….so I went over of course! 😉 I finally got to add to the #50MilesinApril challenge that I committed to before I was sick for 10 days. Hoping I can still make it.
I stopped home for a quick lunch. I made a salad with tomato, red onion, smoked Gouda, and red beans with a side of cantaloupe. So yummy. Then I took Seamus for a long walk.
Loved that the park is so close to my home and across from the park is a lake where I can take my kayak in the Spring and Summer.
That walk added to my hiking for a total of 7.72 miles for the challenge. After that I went grocery shopping and then finally relaxed with a movie and a little reading.
Sunday: I woke up feeling a little sore after all the exercise yesterday, go figure. I finished the book I was reading and it was horrible. It was not what I was expecting based on the cover summary. Let’s just say it was offensive, bigoted, and cliched. I only finished to give it a fair review but I wanted to quit reading after about 20 minutes of reading it. Then it was time to get ready for the baby shower. It was for the sister of my sister-in-law. I broke the Vegetarian Diet for some bacon.
It is not often that I get a good picture of my older Niece. She is usually sticking her tongue out or covering her face so this was a nice surprise.
I headed home around 2pm and then took Seamus for a walk and did some more chores around the house and relaxed. Perfect end to the weekend.
How was your weekend?

i love kids with missing teeth! so cute. glad you got out to enjoy the hike minus the snake!!! omfg i would have cried if i saw that!
Kerry says
It makes them look so cute! It was still a great hike plus I did a RAOK there and saw all the dogs playing by the lake.
Elizabeth Smith says
Your saturday sounds a lot like mine except I probably did about half the mileage you did! haha Great pictures!
Kerry says
Haha! Just getting out and enjoying the weather is good enough! Thank you so much!
Linda Sheridan says
O.M.G. on the snakes. I would never be on that trail again. We had beautiful weather both days. A nice visit from my sister, dinner with her, my husband, son Sean and his girlfriend on Saturday. A great. 3.2 mile walk with my sister on Sunday morning. A pleasure to clean with the windows open. So grateful for the nice weather. Looks like you had a lovely time at the shower and walking with Seamus.
Have a great week!
Love SMD’s momma
Kerry says
It is weird since I got on that trail a lot and I have seen snakes once or twice but never 2 in one day. I think with it finally being warm they were out and about. Looks like you had a full house, sounds wonderful! The windows open are the best! Hope you have a great week!
Jessica says
Great job on all your walking and hiking! Glad you had a great weekend!
Kerry says
Thank you! The weather was perfect for it too.
Liz @ Fitness Blondie says
LMAO if you’re going to break a vegetarian diet, bacon is definitely worth it! You did a TON of exercise Saturday girl, no wonder you’re sore. Lucky you that you have Friday off, I know a lot of people that do, but I don’t. WAH 🙁
Kerry says
It really is worth it. It was a lot but feeling good today, going to hit the gym for more! That stinks, this is the first year we get it off.
Biana says
You are definitely going to get to your goal!! That salad looks so good!! So jealous you have Good Friday off – this year will be the first time I don’t 🙁 Hope you have a great Monday!!
Kerry says
I hope so I started so late since I was sick. It was so good, I like making weird salad combos. This is our first year having it off, and don’t mind if I do. 😉
Lauren says
Bacon is totally worth breaking the veggie diet for! Also I love smoked gouda so now that’s all I want. I am super impressed with all of your exercise – I tell myself that if I had trails and pretty weather, I would take advantage, but since I have neither, I will have to live through your pretty pics and stories!
Kerry says
It really is worth it, especially since I am just doing the Vegetarian thing for fun and not for need. Gouda is the best cheese!! Girl you live in Texas, that’s like the perfect weather!!! Haha!
Sharon says
Ack, I would’ve freaked out if I saw those snakes!
Now I’m really curious about the book you read since it sounds like it was awful!
-Sharon
Kerry says
It was not fun but they luckily just stared me down and let me pass. It was called Time to Die by Sabrina Sims McAfee, it was bigoted, and cliche, with some hate crime though in. Basically just downright awful.
Kelli says
If I were trying vegetarian bacon would be my downfall too, I love bacon. Hahaha
I love the picture of your niece and I love her dress, I wish it came in my size. 🙂
Kerry says
It is just too good to say no. The funny thing is just before that picture she was growling at the camera. 😉 Isn’t it so cute, if only in our size.
Meg says
What a fun weekend – I was so thrilled with the weather!!
Kerry says
It couldn’t have been more perfect! Not too humid.
Jessica says
I went to a shower yesterday too! A wedding shower. 🙂 It’s that season!
Kerry says
Tis the season! Haha!
If I Had 100 Dollars says
Yayy! I’m doing 50 miles in April too and did a hike with a creepily similar mile count! No snakes for me thank god, I would have passed out
Kerry says
Yeah! That is awesome! Luckily they looked like garden snakes but not fun to come across.
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
I don’t finish crappy books anymore. I abandoned one last night about 40 pages in.
You go on all of your miles! That’s great.
Yard work is my main agenda item this weekend too. We are exciting beeotches.
Kerry says
I don’t think I will anymore, but I felt guilty since it was a free book for a review. I was hoping it would get better. Nope! Thank you! I got started so late but hopefully with still hit the mileage. We live the high life! 😉
Nadine says
Snakes?! I can’t even! I would have ran screaming like a little girl!
I have never thought about putting red beans on salad….sounds yummy!
Kerry says
I did yelp then stopped to take a pic, because I’m weird! 😉 It was so good and the added protein helped.
Kate @ Another Clean Slate says
Nice job with the walking? I would have been scared of the snakes!
And which book were you reading? I’m so curious!
Kerry says
Thanks! The snakes were on the hike and it was not relaxing. Haha! The book was Time to Die by Sabrina Sims McAfee. I was seething through most of it.
helene says
ahhhh snakes scare me to death!! i could not handle that at all!
Kerry says
It was not relaxing especially after the first one to see another. Not cool!
Jordan says
Bacon is always a good reason as any to break any kind of diet. I love me some bacon! Great job getting those miles in! I absolutely hate reading a book I know I am not enjoying, it is very frustrating. Hopefully you don’t come across anymore of those anytime soon!
Kerry says
Bacon is good on pretty much everything! Amiright?! I have gotten so many good books from them so I can’t complain that one was just so misleading and not how it was advertised. So poorly written. I am reading a new one now that is really funny and silly. It it washing the bad one away. 😉
Emily T says
I.WOULD.DIE…if I saw those snakes. OMG, I don’t know how you took a picture. I would SCREAMMMM!
Kerry says
I know I am a little odd. I did yelp at first, but then was like what the heck!
Nichole C says
Yay for 50 miles, already!
Kerry says
No, not yet. I just got started after being sick. I am only on about 8 miles. A little ways to go. Haha!
Kerri @ Simplicity Interrupted says
You go girl! That’s a lot of walking in one day. I could do without the snakes, as well – yikes!
Kerry says
It was a lot but it felt good to finally be outside! 🙂
Jamie says
Snakes! Ahhhh! Scary!
Kerry says
Luckily it was just a garden snake!
Kristen says
Im so happy the warm weather is here! Its hiking season!
Kerry says
I am all about hiking every chance I get. Yeah for Spring!
Amanda says
That is my fave pic of Seaumus to date! 😀
Kerry says
He is just such a cutie! He hams it up for the pics.
Jana @ The Townhouse Pioneer says
TWO SNAKES?! My ass would never be on that trail again. It might also be the only thing to get me to run. Maybe.
I have a motto–life is too short to read crappy books. With the extensive list of books I want to read, I refuse to waste time on a bad one, especially like the one you described. But I also kind of want to know what book it is.
And awesome job with the miles!
Kerry says
As if one wasn’t enough! Yes I need to remember to just let it go and give up.
Heather (@mylittlehea) says
Sad to hear you’re sore from your walk but glad you’re feeling better! Those snakes would have been a turnaround for me or I would have added mileage as I went around them, lol. Seamus is sooo cute in that pic. Bacon trumps all!
Kerry says
It was a good kinda sore. Haha! I may be weird for stopping to take a pic. Bacon trumps everything! 😉
Em says
Holy shiz, I would have gotten a new PR if I saw snakes on my run hahaha. Looks like you had one fabulous weekend! And omg your pup…what a cutie!!
Kerry says
Haha! I must be the only one stupid enough to stop for a picture. SMH. It was fabulous, thanks! He melts my heart with that tongue hanging out. 😉
Kimberlee VDW (@KimberleeVDW) says
Lots of baby showers this weekend 🙂 Good luck on the 50 mile challenge… that’s pretty cool! I wonder how many miles I walk since I walk all over NYC.
Thanks for linking up with MMG!
Kerry says
Tis the season! Haha! Thank you, you should try and track it, I bet you walk a lot in the city.
elleseesyou says
i want to take charlie walking somewhere but i get nervous going by myself! there’s piedmont park here but i don’t think dogs are allowed on it. i think i’ve seen too many movies about being in a “big” city and getting hurt 😉
i cannot remember my weekend! i think that means it’s time for another break then 😉
Kerry says
It is nervous because you don’t want them to get hurt or hurt someone else. Not remembering sounds like it was really good!
Leeann @ Join the Gossip says
The amount of walking/hiking you do is so impressive. I need to take a page from your book!
How ignorant am I that I was shocked to see that you have snakes. I just figured you had pretty deer everywhere haha.
Thanks for linking up!
Kerry says
Thank you! Yes, it’s so fun and free. Haha! Mostly just water and garden snakes but different areas have different ones too. Scary.
Alli says
We really need to trade recipes soon because this food looks amazing!
Kerry says
Anytime!! That would be fun. At our next Sip Happens we should all bring a favorite recipe with copies for everyone.
