Can I just say I am absolutely exhausted! Like this is very possible once I get home from work!
I have a feeling the whole month of October is going to be like this, thanks in part to my Cake Decorating class. Woohoo! It will be totally worth it since it was really fun. It is going to mean homework of practicing, baking cakes and cupcakes to decorate and whipping up batches upon batches of frosting. I am not mad about it at all, I just know I am going to get overwhelmed with trying to keep up with housework, going to the gym, practicing frosting, regular housework and blogging. So please be patient with me if it takes longer to respond than normal.
I did try to sneak a few pics of the things we worked on, my teacher Kristen is awesome and really patient. It is an evening adult education course for 3 hour a session for four session at the local Technical School not far from my house.
Our decorator kit – tips and pastry bag
Practicing making roses – this was harder than it looks
Some of the less than horrible roses
Practicing handwriting for cakes – yeah mine looks like a 2 year old wrote it. Womp Womp!
Just getting used to how to hold the bag was a task and it is much different than how you hold a pencil and write your name. Needless to say this will require lots of practice. Look forward to my next class. 🙂
I am also Guest Posting over at The Daybreak Bird about my favorite vacation – Christmas By The Sea in Maine.

Babes you actually did a killer job on the roses!
Thank you! It is so hard learning new things. I was really uncomfortable and I am a perfectionist. I am so grateful for being able to take the class and can’t wait till I master these new skills!
You are a rock star for taking the class! It is never easy to make time to do stuff like that for yourself. Know you are inspiring!
Thank you! I feel like a little meltdown will happen with feeling overwhelmed but I know how great it will be to learn new skills. Be prepared for some phone sessions! 😉 Love you, girl!
I am always so impressed when people are good with the cake decorating.
It is such a skill and hoping that one day I will be able to master it.
the roses are by far the hardest thing I think you learn in cake decorating class
That is what our teacher said too, so hopefully it gets easier! I think it was just learning the angles and the movement. I will be practicing it a lot! 😉
you would LAUGH at my cake decorating skills, it’s so hideous. i tried to make my own icing but i whipped it too much and then it was all runny and weird and i didn’t want to waste it so i just spread it all on the top of the cupcakes and stuck a decorative thingy on it LOL
LOL!! Oh my goodness. That’s when you add a little more powdered sugar, girl! I am envisioning a lot of cake decorating fails in my future until I get it right!
I’ve never tried to decorate a cake, but it looks HARD. You are doing so well! It’s awesome that you are taking a class to develop a new skill. Looks like you’re having fun… YAY!! 🙂
It is definitely a skill!! Thank you! I have always just taught myself baking and cooking so it is sort of refreshing for someone to teach me then to spend hours trying to figure it out on my own! I am having a blast so far!
Those roses dont look half bad! Im sure with a little practice you’ll be a pro in no time!
Thank you!! Yes I will be practicing a LOT!! Haha!
Awww, so jealous! That seems like such an awesome class! I aspire to one day have enough time again to learn neat stuff like that, haha!

Thank you! I was so looking forward to this class! I am so short on time on most days but I really felt it was a short term (only one month) that it was worth it to learn a new skill. Hope you get some time soon to enjoy a fun class!
That is so cool you’re doing the class! I should look into something like this but first I think I should try baking a few cakes before I get into the decorating part of it ha.
Haha!! I am loving it! All the local colleges or technical schools should have night classes. There was a bread making class too that I wanted to take but I was waitlisted for that one.
Stopping in from the blog hop! Those cupcakes look amazeballs 🙂
Thank you! I am learning but hopefully with practice they will get even better.
What a fun hobby! I promised my husband if the Giants went to the Superbowl in 2011, I would make him iced cookies. They did so I did and my hand has never hurt more. I just used trial and error but a real pro’s opinion would have been invaluable!
It is so fun! Yes!! It never hurts to learn from the pros, it makes everything a little easier. I have always baked cakes and made my own frosting but that’s it. It never looks fancy and I didn’t put cute flowers or pictures on them. I am excited to learn from someone else for a change! 🙂
i can’t even frost a cake with out it looking pathetic!!
Oh no! The trick is to make sure your cake is completely cool or you will pull some of it off i.e. crumbly.
