If you saw my Fall Bucket List you will know that baking a pie was one of my items. It is inevitable that I will bake a pie every year but I wanted to something other than the standard Apple pie. When I saw this Pin on Pinterest I knew I had to give it a try. The pears become very soft when baking and the caramel and brown sugar lend the sweetness to the center. My co-workers told me it was blog worthy, so hope you give it a try!
Ingredients:
Pie Crust – 2½ cup flour ~ 1 cup cold butter, cubed ~1 tsp salt ~ 1 tsp sugar ~ 6 to 8 tbsp ice cold water ~ 1 egg white, for brushing over the crust
Filling – 10 pears, peeled, cored, and sliced ~ juice from one lime ~ 1/3 cup Caramel Sauce ~ Pinch of Brown Sugar
Directions: Remove butter from freezer. Butter should be frozen (I always store my butter in the freezer for baking purposes). In a food processor add the flour, salt and sugar and mix till combined. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture is mixed (should be chunky crumbles). Add the ice water one tablespoon at a time and continue mixing. The dough should start to hold together. Go slow and check after each one.
Remove dough from food processor and place it on a cutting board or mat. Roll into a ball and cut in half forming the top and bottom crust.
Cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour or up to 2 days before using. Peel, core and slice the pears and toss with the lime juice.
Preheat oven to 425° F / 220° C. Take out your dough and roll out so that it’s 10 inches in diameter and place it and arrange in your pie dish.
Brush the pie crust with egg white so that it doesn’t get soggy. Add the pears to the pie dish and pour the caramel sauce over the pears, you don’t have to pour it all if you think it’s too much sauce.
Sprinkle on a pinch or two of Brown sugar.
Roll out the other disc so that it’s 12 inches in diameter cut it into lattice strips. Arrange the lattice strips nicely over the pears, cutting the parts that overhang.
Brush with remaining egg white to the lattice top. This will give you that nice golden brown crust! Sprinkle on a little granulated sugar for an added glow.
Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
What is you favorite kind of pie?
Linking up with Jessica and Ashley.

This looks like something I would buy at the grocery store! So pretty! Thanks for linking up with Jess and me!
Thank you, such a great compliment!!
Your pie looks beautiful and I love that your coworkers told you that it was blog-worthy, haha! I see that we comment on a ton of the same blogs so I wanted to come and say hi 🙂 Have a great Tuesday!
I told them I need their honest opinion. They are always such good sports about being my tasters. Those poor souls! 😉
That really looks beautiful!
Thanks! It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be too.
Oh, my step mom would love this! Her parents have a pear tree in their yard and they’re always making pear recipes!
Okay so jealous they have a pear tree!! To be able to pick fresh fruit and make pies!! HEAVEN!! Hope she tries it!
Wow! What a beautiful pie! If you ever move to Wisconsin, you definitely have a friend who would help with taste testing!
Haha!! Love it! Thank you!
This pie looks really delish! If you want to really dress it up, before you bake it sprinkle on some sanding sugar, or demererra sugar and it will glisten!
I didn’t even think of that, though I have done it for a previously made apple pie! Thanks!
