I can’t help but grab the slip of paper that they hand out in front of the grocery store for the food pantry. This past weekend was no exception. Based on the items on the list it looks to be for kids lunches (minus the feminine products). So who was I to say no?!
Whoever had the idea of standing out front of the supermarket looking for donations was a genius. Guilt trip city. Haha! Genius. If you don’t have the same luck with the food pantry folks stalking your supermarket, find a local food pantry near you by clicking here.
Also if you are interesting in doing your own Random of Acts of Kindness and want to guest post let me know!
Are you considering doing your own Act of Kindness? If not, what is stopping you? Grab a button if you would like to spread the word. The change that we seek in others has to first come from within. This year I hope you decide to Be the Change You Seek.

That is a great idea. It is hard to imagine not having enough to eat. We have people in need begging for food and money outside stores. Not good. We have plenty of local food pantries. I just donated to the pantry closest to me. I was surprised how many pantries exist. Godspeed for everyone to have
a warm, happy, abundant home. #gratefuleverynanosecond

Yes, no one should ever have to go hungry. It is such a basic need but some have gone without regularly. I am sure they really appreciated your donation.
Liz @ Fitness Blondie says
You get more amazing every day that passes. I am so happy to see you continuing to do this.
Kerry says
Awww thank you. Just trying to do my part.

I worked at a food pantry as part of my internship while getting my Master’s. It is startling how many people need assistance meeting this basic need. Wonderful cause to support!

That is awesome that you interned at a food pantry. It is astounding how many go without food. It should never happen, but sadly does daily.
Biana says
This is so inspiring!! Going to keep my eye out for things like this!!
Kerry says
Yeah!! That makes my heart happy! There are so many food pantries and they are always in need.
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
That’s totally great that they stand out in front of grocery stores. I wish ones around me did that. You rule!
Kerry says
Thank you! Yes, my grocery store actually has a huge box by the checkout for daily donations but they also stand out front when they have a real shortage of certain items. It is really awesome and perfect since you are already going in so grabbing a few things to help is easier.
Lauren says
I’ve never seen a person seeking donations at the grocery store, but that is a great idea. Good for you, girl!
Kerry says
I think my store is just really involved with the community. It is much easier when they are already there, but just as easy to go to their website and see what they need and donate the items the next time you go shopping.
Kelli says
I’ve never seen anyone selling and/or asking for donations outside our grocery stores here. I did see the Veterans outside of Walmart one weekend asking for donations but that’s it.
We’ve also determined I don’t have girl scouts out there either, I wonder if my tourist town has some regulations against is? Either way, you’re awesome!
Kerry says
It could be regulated. Walmart is really strict on letting people standing outside. When I was raising funds for the 3 day breast cancer walk I stood outside a grocery store but with permission. Thanks!

Great job!! Have you ever heard of the Bobby Bones Show? They’re a radio show in Nashville and they’ve dubbed this week “joy week”. They’re spending the whole week spreading joy and doing things like this for others! I love it!!
Kerry says
I haven’t heard of that show. Love the idea of “joy week” though!
Ashley @ Married to the Game says
Amazing as usual!
Kerry says
Thanks, girl!
Jordan says
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this outside my grocery store! You are so inspiring, kudos to you!
Kerry says
It may just be a local thing but still possible to donate to a local food pantry. Thank you.
Stephanie says
You’re such a good person, do you know that? You are. They don’t do this all the time at my store, but I’ve seen it on occasion, usually around holidays. The veterans came once and did it, like older vets in uniform collecting for a kid’s charity, that was really cute!
Kerry says
Awe shucks. Thanks! Yes, usually on the holidays or when in really short supply. That is awesome the vets came out to help kids. Thank gives me an idea! 😉
Amanda says
Such a great idea! 😀 I organized a food drive a couple years at an old job and I left flyers like this at the local grocery store… they help a lot!
Kerry says
You rock! They really do, it makes it easier for people to donate.
Michelle @ 3cheaprunners says
I admire that you have such a giving heart – if more people shared that quality, this world would be such a better place
Kerry says
Thank you. Yes, hopefully it inspires others to give whether it be money, items, or time. So much can be done with just a little effort.
Kate @ Another Clean Slate says
Those grocery store asks always get me!!
Kerry says
It is so hard to say no because you are already there!! Haha!

I love food pantries! Something my parent’s church, which runs a food pantry, does occasionally is ask the members of the church to donate items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, water bottles, etc) and then they’ll have a big day where we make kits in gallon size zip lock bags. Each bag includes the hygiene items, a couple water bottles, and a couple food items along with a slip of paper directing them back to the food pantry. They then pass the bags out to anyone in the church who wants to keep them in their cars and we pass them out to homeless people we see asking for money or aid by stoplights. I’ve done it several times on my own, and it always seems to brighten their day.
Kerry says
That is such a great thing for them to do. I actually have something similar on Pinterest that I pinned awhile back that is the same principal.
Jayda says
This is such a great idea!! We don’t have a food pantry here, but I try to donate whenever people come to our door for food drives.
Kerry says
Yes, there are so many good organizations for feeding those in need so any chance you get it wonderful!
