I know not everyone is a coffee drinker but if that is the case, switch out the word coffee for another caffeinated beverage of choice.
Now close your eyes and see that beverage in your mind. Can you smell it? Taste it? Does it brighten your day? What about 50 munchkins from Dunkin Donuts?
Well this past weekend I decided my next Act of Kindness for my Be The Change Series was going to be delivering a Box o’ Joe and 50 Munckin Donuts to the local emergency room nurses station. I was shaking like a leaf nervous that their policy or heightened security would lead them to turn me away.
I mean you had to buzz the intercom to be let into the Emergency Wing. What was I going to say? I stood their for a minute trying to figure it out. Fortunately all I had to say was Coffee and I was buzzed right in. I may have fumbled the whole spiel about what I was doing and why I did it but the smiles on their faces when they knew I was leaving the coffee was so genuine and heartfelt that I almost cried. Yeah, I may be a little on the sensitive side. There were two nurses at the station and after talking to them for a bit a few came over joking about taking it all.
The thing is, I did want to be a Nurse at one point and I know how important their role is in helping save lives, making people feel less scared, and just plain explaining what is happening. I have landed myself in the Emergency room a time or two and I never really remember the doctors but I always remember the nurses.
So in thanks to all they do everyday to help others I figured they deserved someone to help make their day a little better. Even if it is just with a coffee jolt and a sugar rush!
Grab a button if you would like as well to spread the word. The change that we seek in others has to first come from within. This year I hope you decide to Be the Change You Seek.

i swear, i’m going to find a way to submit this to the Ellen show because this surely deserves recognition. AMAZING. you are amazing, kerry. if the world had more people like you in it, it would be a much better place.
Thank you so much! Just have people read it and maybe turn around and do a kind act is enough for me. Hopefully it makes people think how they can make a change and do something nice for others.
I love that! Nurses are always the ones that are advocating for patients – you see them more than the doctors. Great idea!
Yes, they do so much of the work for much less credit! They deserve it!
That is so so sweet! I think if you are a nurse you have to end up liking coffee and who doesn’t need a sweet treat during work? I love that it’s so simple yet something few people would or have ever taken the opportunity to do. Love it!
Yes, with such long hours and being constantly on the go, I think most have learn to love it and need it. There are so many little things people can do to make someone’s day brighter. Hope it sparks some ideas in others.
Umm this is so sweet! I will definitely be doing this soon!
Thank you!! I hope you do, it will really brighten their day and show them how much we appreciate them!
You are amazing! I can’t imagine how good you felt about doing this!
Thank you! I feel a little guilty for getting so much happiness out of it, since it about helping others. The looks of shock and words of gratitude though was pretty amazing! I had a smile on my face the rest of the day, I hope it did for them too!
This was so sweet of you to do! I’m sure they all appreciated it so much!

Thank you! They looked so happy to get it and I hope it really made their day go by a little easier, if not with a little sugar rush! 🙂
Kerry I am so damn proud of you.
Thank you so much! So glad to call you a friend and to have your support! Big hugs!
this is such a sweet thing!! I love you even more after reading this! 😉
Thank you so much! I had so much fun doing it too!
this is lovely!! what a sweet gesture.
Thank you! They were totally deserving!
LOVE this!!!! SUCH a cute idea!! I see every day, firsthand, how hard nurses work. Believe you me, they are not given NEARLY the respect they deserve – you made their day… without a doubt. 🙂
Thanks! They work so hard and for such long hours! I hope so, girl! Thank you!
That is awesome!!
Thank you! I think they really appreciated it too!
here’s the thing, anyone can do a random act of kindness but YOU just go above and beyond. such an inspiration!
Thank you so much! That really means the world to me! Hoping to inspire others to go above and beyond! We might just leave a better place for the kids who come after us.
I would have cried too! God is so proud of your giving heart!
Thank you! Yes, it was tough not to, but they were so surprised and grateful!
this was SO amazing of you and i’m sure super super appreciated as well!
Thank you! It was fun to do and hope they really liked it!
I think this is so sweet 🙂 It’s sad that we have to worry that they wouldn’t accept it. Actually, I did the acts of kindness for my birthday one year, and I got coffee/donut gift cards for the police and fire stations. I think I researched that in Chicago, they won’t accept gifts of food for fear of it being contaminated. So sad.
It is so sad that we have to doubt it would be accepted. Bad apples spoiling the bunch. The police station is on my list too so I will be sure to see if thy have a policy about food gifts.
That’s so awesome! They really do not get appreciated enough, and sometimes that jolt of caffeine is exactly what they need to feel encouraged. My sister-in-law is in nursing school, so I definitely value nurses highly.
With those long shifts I bet coffee breaks are necessary!
YOU ARE AMAZING!!!
Thank you! Just trying to give back!
What a nice gesture! It put a smile on everyone’s face 🙂 It’s so sweet when you can reach out and touch others’ hearts, even with something so small.
I really does make a difference in someone’s life and that is all i can hope for with this project! Thank you!
you. are. awesome…
Thank you, just trying to do my part in helping others.
