I haven’t posted for a few days because I just couldn’t focus enough to get it together. I have been feeling really broken. Normally I like looking back at the year and seeing all I have done but this was a tough year. It didn’t help that I read this amazing book that I didn’t read but FELT. I don’t know if it was because I was emotional or if it was just the journey the main character went through trying to find her happy, that spoke to me. When I look back at the year I see myself just “getting through” life and just trying to get through the day. Don’t get me wrong there have been some great times but for the most part I was working for the weekends, and constantly feeling overwhelmed and needing to get caught up.
So my word for this next year is FOCUS! I don’t want the weeks to just go by, I want to really enjoy them and to be working towards short and long term goals.
* Work towards becoming debt free – at least 50% aside from my mortgage by the end of the year.
* Travel to at least 2 places this year – maybe to meet some bloggers 😉
* Continue to look into starting my own business
* Get back to working out 4-6 times a week
* Finish the renovations on my house
* Spend 5 minutes every morning writing out a to-do list incorporating steps for long term goals
* Stay in a Bed and Breakfast for a day or weekend
* Take a woodworking class at the local college
* Open my heart to opportunities and people I otherwise wouldn’t have before
I am sure this list will grow and change throughout the year but I want to be more open and present in shaking some things up.
What are some of your goals?
Do you re-evaluate your goals daily, weekly or monthly?

I wish you the happiest New Year!
Great goals! Remember, you are enough! Always good to want to do better, too!
Carpe diem!!
Love, SMD’s Momma

Kerry, this is SO good. I feel this way a lot too. Like, I’m just moving through life and not feeling completel fulfilled. I love your goals. Mine are pretty similar for 2015! Can’t wait to follow along with you for the new year! xoxo
Kerry says
Yes, exactly! Let’s hope that we focus more, and really experience life as fully as we can.
Bri @ My Life As says
I hope that 2015 is good to you! Those are great goals to have & I hope you accomplish as many as possible. What was the book you were reading?
Kerry says
Thank you! I hope so too. I was reading The Life Intended, there is a link to the summary on Goodreads, it was so good.
Nadine says
I certainly feel like I work for the weekends as well. It is hard to focus on little happies during the week sometimes but so important to in order to enjoy life more! Great reminder! I wish for you a happy 2015!!!
Kerry says
Yes, sometimes we just have to slow down and focus more on the present. Happy 2015!
Amanda says
Those are great goals, Kerry. I hope 2015 brings you much focus 🙂
Kerry says
Thank you! Here’s to the best year yet!

I can definitely relate to how you felt about last year- and I love your word for this year. I have to say though, you are someone I’ve thought of as being so encouraging this past year. All of your amazing DIYs and everything you did for Be The Change & random acts of kindness in 2014 was really wonderful.
Kerry says
Thank you so much, that really means a lot to me. I think on the whole I have done a lot, but it was less organized and more focused.
Heather @ My Little HEA says
I’ve never stayed at a bed and breakfast, and I’ve always wanted to after seeing Message in a Bottle. I think focus is a great word for this year and I completely understand living for the weekends and just getting through life. I definitely have my moments where I’ve felt like that. I’m hoping my plans for this year really help with that aspect of my life. Wishing you a successful and very happy 2015!!
Kerry says
Someone else doing all the work and more small town feel is so much nicer than a chain hotel. Having a plan instead of just winging it like I normally do will really help! 😉 Hope 2015 is awesome to you.
Nikki @ The Pink Growl says
Focus is a GREAT word for this year! I love the idea of being present in all situations and not letting moments pass us by.
Kerry says
Thank you. It is hard not to get caught up in the busy but I want to change that this year!
Christy@SweetandSavoring says
Oh yes, I know what you mean. I could have written that entire first paragraph. Hugs to you, Kerry. Here’s to giving ourselves a break and finding more peace!
Kerry says
Thank you. We really do need to cut ourselves some slack sometimes. We really can’t do it all even if we want to or think we have to. Hope 2015 brings you all the best!
kristen says

Yes, animals in general are family. She always has great hair and I like that she mostly has always had long hair. Hard to find long hair inspiration. You keep yours on the longer side though.
Kelly says
This is a great list, Kerry! Perhaps the brokenness is because you are on the verge of breaking through a shell that will free you to do what you heart is calling you to do. You can do it! One step at a time.
Kerry says
Thank you so much. I know that I can’t change without first being broken so I guess it is a good thing in a way. Thank you for the encouragement.
Ashley says
Oh I can’t wait to hear about the Bed and Breakfast! I have always wanted to do that! I love what Kelly said above! … Here’s to your New Year and may it bring you much success and happiness! XxOo
Kerry says
They just seem like utter decadence right?! I really need to lead with my heart this year.
Kim says
I love your word!!
And, I think that meeting new bloggers and staying in a bed & breakfast could be linked up:)
Kerry says
That is true! A little blogger conference of our own! 😉
kathy@real talk says
these are all amazing goals; esp the last one.
for the longest time, people were going on and on about muay thai but i was always like: yuck, all they do is grab at each other and they’re all sweaty…no thanks!!
but then i decided to try it for the hell of it and now i’m all HOW CAN I FIT MORE MUAY THAI INTO MY LIFE?! i really wanted to go to today’s class but i’m fighting a cold and woke up feeling like a bag of ass so i decided to stay home today and just go to tomorrow’s class but i am not happy about that.
if i hadn’t opened up my mind about muay thai, i wouldn’t have experienced this amazing new workout and fitness group!
Kerry says
Hope you feel better. It is amazing what we can experience when we open ourselves to the idea of trying them. I can sometimes be such a free bird, and other times very set in my ways. It’s all about balance I guess and being open.
Amanda says
These are all good goals, and do-able! I think you’re great the way you are but I’m here to support you in any way that you need to feel like the best YOU! 🙂
Kerry says
Aww thanks babe! I really need to feel like I am working on the bid picture and not just letting life take me where it wants to.
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
Sorry you were less than whelmed looking back. I think we all feel like that sometimes. It’s easy to miss the great in the daily because we’re wishing away for the next vacation, weekend, whatever.
Love you friend!
Kerry says
Thank you. I think I got a lot accomplished but I think I was so focused on the short term I forgot about the long term goals, if that makes sense.
Love you girl!
Melanie @ Ribbons and Rotor Blades says
Wishing you a Happy 2015!!
I love your goals and am looking forward to seeing you blog about them as you accomplish them!
Kerry says
I think sharing them makes me more accountable so I will be posting more about them for sure.
