Happy Friday!!! I am excited for this weekend it is supposed to be in the 50’s on Saturday so I am planning on strapping on my hiking books and hitting the trails. There is only a little bit of snow on the ground so I think it should be fine to go out. Then on Sunday is one of my nieces birthday parties so it should be a full weekend. So let’s get on with my five things I am loving this week.
One. I was paired with Meg from Borrowed Heaven for the Mug Swap . It was so fun getting to know her and learning more about her and she is a New England girl too! She got me the cutest mug, some tea, and cupcake liners. I already put the mug and tea to good use and now I need to make some cupcakes soon.
Two. Virtual Mugs!
Brianne from Being Bracco considers animal prints as neutrals so I figured this mug was perfect! She has great style and sweet as can be.
This one is for Mandy from Mandy’s Money and for Kylie from Lip Gloss and Lunges. Kylie is competing in the Crossfit Open and Mandy just found her love for Crossfit.
Three. I did this workout on Wednesday and it kicked my booty. I tried to keep the rest between sets really low. Go check out Workoutroutine on Instagram for more workout inspiration.
Four. The blog world seems to be obsessed lately with talking about how life is messy and not just showing the perfect side of life. Not judging. I have no opinion on this really it’s your blog, post what you want to post. Everyone knows life is imperfect so even if you only show the good, that’s never the whole story. I figured I would just leave you with something to think about.
Sometimes we just hide it better than others.
Five. Currently reading The Weight of Blood by Laura McHugh and loving it so far. It is a little on the darker side and a little back country mystery but I love the dynamics of the characters. I wish I could just stay home and read it in one sitting.
From Goodreads:
The Dane family’s roots tangle deep in the Ozark Mountain town of Henbane, but that doesn’t keep sixteen-year-old Lucy Dane from being treated like an outsider. Folks still whisper about her mother, a bewitching young stranger who inspired local myths when she vanished years ago. When one of Lucy’s few friends, slow-minded Cheri, is found murdered, Lucy feels haunted by the two lost girls-the mother she never knew and the friend she couldn’t protect. Everything changes when Lucy stumbles across Cheri’s necklace in an abandoned trailer and finds herself drawn into a search for answers. What Lucy discovers makes it impossible to ignore the suspicion cast on her own kin. More alarming, she suspects Cheri’s death could be linked to her mother’s disappearance, and the connection between the two puts Lucy at risk of losing everything. In a place where the bonds of blood weigh heavy, Lucy must decide where her allegiances lie.
Well that is it for me. Let the clock run quick so i can go home and finish my book. #nerdproblems
What are you up to this weekend?
kathy @ vodka and soda says
yeah, i’m not sure about that whole “i hate it when bloggers pretend like their life is perfect etc etc”. it’s their blog, they can post what they want. if people no likey, click that little “x” at the corner and move on.
and i LOVE the snatch mug hahahaha! i saw a douchey workout tank that said that and immediately wanted to order it.
Kerry says
Exactly and who wants to read about how imperfect your life is everyday. There is always two sides to everyone’s life. I just don’t think we should just someone for being to happy or showing their life in a positive way.
Besides I would rather imagine they have a closet that explodes with junk when they open it, but that one corner of their house is pristine. Haha! 😉
Isn’t it just perfect. You so need that on a shirt!
Liz @ Fitness Blondie says
What do you mean about the blog thing?
Also, great choices on the mugs – I think I would start drinking coffee for leopard and snatch this mugs – too perfect.
YAY for hiking girl. Take pictures. I am going tomorrow as well!!!
Kerry says
It was going around about some blogs being too perfect, too happy or not “real” enough. I didn’t take offense to it but I just think some people choose happy over posting the negative. To each their own, is my philosophy. I will take pictures, I am excited to finally get outside.
Kelli says
I totally think the crazy weather has everyone posting their crappy days on blogs, a little warm weather and sunshine will take all those bad moods right away.
Kerry says
Yes, I think the weather played a big factor in everyone’s mood. I just don’t want to feel like I have to post the bad or I will be “fake” I like being happy more.
Joey says
The mug you received in that swap is JUST so DANG cute! Such pretty colors PLUS a sweet little bird? Yes, please. When my husband and I first started dating (waaaaaaaay back in HS), one of the things he said to me kind of just stopped me in my tracks–he said “you’re always smiling, but I can see there’s pain in your heart somewhere.” It was such an odd thing for him to say–but he was so right. He was the first one to ever just see through it all–you know? We grin in bear it when we have to.
Kerry says
It was so perfect and I love the outdoors and earthy elements so it was perfect.
He is a good egg to see through it. Some times we have been through such a hard past we just choose to be happy and move forward. Being happy doesn’t always mean you haven’t struggled, you just laugh in the face of all that tried to bring you down but you are still standing! Stay strong, keep smiling!
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
That bird mug! I love it!!!!!!
Kerry says
Isn’t it so pretty?! It was so perfect.
birdietobe says
Love that bird mug! It has my name all over it ! 🙂
Kerry says
It does!! It is so pretty too.
Linda Sheridan says
Hope you have a lovely, spiritual hike with Mother Nature. We are headed to Loyola, MD for Villanova’s first spring soccer game. I am beyond thrilled that it will be on the warm side- 60! Great on the workouts. Making exercise a habit is a top priority in my life right now, along with eating good stuff, much less sugar! I am on my 5th day. This is non-negotiable. You girls are lucky that you know at a younger age how important it is to eat the right stuff most of the time, along with the exercise.
Carpe every diem.
Love SMD’s Momma
Kerry says
Hope it is a good game, the weather should be perfect for it. Eating healthy and exercise are much easier when it is a habit and you make it a part of everyday. You are doing awesome! Enjoy the weekend!
Jamie says
Love the mugs. I need some more cute mugs in my life.
Kerry says
A cute mug just really makes it taste better. 🙂
Sharon says
That leopard print mug is SO cute!
I do think the blogging community generally does like to paint life as sunshine and rainbows (myself included!) which is not reality. But on the other hand, blogging can be a nice escape if you’re going through a rough time. So I can see both sides of the issue.
-Sharon
Kerry says
It is so perfect for leopard print addicts. 😉
Yes, I can see both sides. I don’t think we should judge anyone for what they choose to post about on any given day. People should just remember it is only one side of a 3D person.
Ellesees.blogspot.com says
i am heading to the mts in a few minutes for some relaxation. happy weekend to us!
Kerry says
That sounds like the perfect way to spend the day!! Hope you have a blast and a good weekend!
Renee Bursey says
Love the weight lifting mug!
Happy Friday, lady!
Kerry says
Isn’t it perfect! Hope you have a great weekend!
Mandy says
Love my mug & also love the leopard one! Funny that you picked that mug for me because there is a joke around the gym about my great snatch haha
I was reading GOMI and so many people complain about bloggers lives always being too perfect, but really a blog only shows a very small part of our lives & I don’t think everyone would continually read a blog about how terrible someones life is!
Kerry says
OMG that is hilarious!
It really is just a small part of who we are and somethings aren’t made to share. I think you should have a good balance but we shouldn’t judge people for what they choose to blog about.
Jessica says
Ok, I’m not really a fan of animal print, but that mug is ADORABLE! And I love that quote — it’s something to remember. I’m so bad about getting caught up in the facade. I see a smiling face and think wow, her life is so much better than mine. But I know that’s not always the case.
Kerry says
Isn’t it so cute!! Yes, a lot of times they just hide it better then we do. Just remember all the things you don’t share, they do the same.
Taylor Jeavons says
I loveeee mugs and am giving one away on my blog today 🙂
Come join my giveaway at Tattered to Taylored
Kerry says
Thank you. I am such a sucker for mugs!
Kate @ Another Clean Slate says
The Weight of Blood was so dark but I loved the dynamics of the characters too 🙂
And a mug swap is perfect for you!
Kerry says
It is really dark and the whole family aspect is creepy but it is so well written I just wanted to finish it so bad. So good.
I jumped on the mug swap, I love me a good mug. 😉
Lauren says
I think there’s a huge difference between positivity and and always making your life seem perfect, though. You talked about your bathroom woes (real, imperfect life) but saw the positive aspects of it – getting to redesign and freshen up. I think you can talk about real life without making it sunshine and rainbows if you want, but if your outlook is a cheery one, then there is nothing wrong with showing how you see things that way! It’s the acting like nothing bad ever happens to you and making life seem oh-so-perfect that I think people are tired of and where the craving for realness comes from! So I hope you aren’t feeling called out by some recent posts (mine included) – in my opinion, you don’t fall into that category!
Kerry says
I totally see your point. No, this didn’t come from anything directed at me and I totally didn’t feel your posts were directed at me. Thank you! 🙂 I just don’t want people feeling bad for seeing overly perfect blogs and feeling like that is the whole picture because it never could be.
We don’t have to live up to anyone’s standard but the one we set for ourselves, and perfect just isn’t it.
Angi Solle says
I wish I would have known about this mug swap! I have such a mug problem! I love to collect really random fun mugs. Your bird mug is so freaking adorable!
Kerry says
I think there will another one in a couple months. I love a cute and fun mug. It was the perfect mug for me, i love outdoors and the colors were so Spring.
Michelle @ 3cheaprunners says
Love the mug you got in the swap! I can’t wait to receive mine – I live in Canada and was paired up with a girl from Texas!
Kerry says
Oohhh the waiting part is so hard!! Hope you get it soon. I just love mine and so perfect for me.
Amanda Elizabeth says
I like showing my leggings and copious glasses of wine behind the scenes 😉 Oh that book sounds good. I really need to get it together and get some of these!
Kerry says
Haha! Wine always wins! I can’t be without a book it seems weird. I have so many right now it’s getting out of hand!!
Tracy says
Absolutely love that saying!!! I can hide things like a champ! Have a great weekend!
Kerry says
I am pretty good at hiding things from some people. Sometimes I just want to deal with things alone and that’s ok. ope you have a great weekend!
Stacia says
I absolutely love that quote! I have known it to be so true in the lives of people I know. Thanks for sharing! Have fun hiking this weekend!
Kerry says
Thank you. I am really excited to just get outside for a change. Have a great weekend!
Stephanie says
The overly ‘sunshine and rainbows’ thing is hard for me. If you look at it, I really don’t blog about my personal life all that much except days like today (which is called 10 Best, I’m not adding woe is me crap to that.) So I guess it’s possible that I come off as too ‘everything is great all the time’ but who knows. No one’s complained yet!
Kerry says
I don’t think you come off that way at all.
Leeann @ Join the Gossip says
Those mugs are too cute! I love the little owl 🙂
Good for you on working out. After the binge eating on my cruise I need to get in gear lol.
Can we swap temps? It’s supposed to be 90 here tomorrow. I’m just not ready for that!
Kerry says
It was such a tough workout too after the second round. Ummm I will swap temps with you, for sure!!
Emily says
Love the stuff you got in the mug swap! So pretty!
Kerry says
I loved my mug. It is so me and the tea was so good!
Kim says
I’ve noticed there is a lot of chatter in the blog world, too lately. I just try to be real on my blog – overall I want it to be positive and not full of negativity while still being the exact person that I really am in real life!!
Kerry says
Yes, that is how I feel too. I want to see the positive sides to life. I don’t think people should be judged for that choice either.
Amanda says
You got such a cute mug!!!!
Kerry says
It was so pretty. I love it!
Hope @ Hope in a Blog says
I love blogs that showcase people + their lives, their loves, and everything in between! I choose to mostly post happy things on my blog but when I’m having a rough go at it I look at writing on my blog as therapy for me. I’m a self proclaimed open book + I want my blog to be that way too. People need to do what’s best for them + not worry or care what other people are thinking/saying. If you’re happy with the content you’re putting on your blog…then that is what matters in my humble opinion :)!! We all have something going on whether we choose to blog about it once, twice, or never. Xx.
Kerry says
Yes, I tend to post a little bit of both because heck that is life. There are certain things I don’t want on my blog because they just deserve the time or attention but it is a mix of both good and bad. I just feel bad others are getting judged for only being positive.
Amanda @ Rhyme & Ribbons says
Yea, I figured that people don’t tend to blog about the bad but it’s still there. I’m not a member of the school of thought that that is being fake. I think maybe those people just don’t want to air their dirty laundry on the internet? There’s nothing wrong with wanting to, but there’s nothing wrong with keeping that private as well! x
Kerry says
Yes, I think it will always be there whether or not you talk about it and it is okay if people chose not to talk about it. It is like that saying “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” I guess it is just good food for thought I guess.
Nichole C says
The leopard mug is right up my alley! How cute 🙂
Kerry says
Isn’t it so adorable! It is a must buy! 🙂
