Hey, remember me?! I was off gallivanting in North Carolina for the past few days. I left at 10pm on Friday night on just a half hour nap. I might have been a little too excited to hit the road to see Maddie. You can read her re-cap too because it was so sweet it made me blush. She has come up to visit her in-laws and we have gotten to meet about 3 other times so it was nice to see her on her turf. I had to pull over for a 30 minute nap and ended up getting to her place around 10 am. To say I was tired was an understated but I only took a little over an hour nap before I woke up and was ready to get going.
It started to pour on the way to their house and so we had to pull over for it to pass so of course we headed in to Cook Out for a shake. I had the Peanut Butter Fudge and it was so good!!
By this time I was exhausted and it was nearing midnight but that didn’t stop us from staying up a little later to laugh the night away. I am going to say the rest for tomorrow because I just got done with 15 hours of driving and doing laundry, this girl is tired. Sheesh, duh. 😉 I promise not to drag it out I just need more sleep and some Seamus snuggles.

That looks like a deliciously fun time! I have a friend in Raleigh and I was thinking about visiting her and her husband some time. This might have put me over the edge!
Kerry says

Thank you. Yes, I was sure to pull over whenever I felt myself getting too tired. We saw so much and got a lot of good quality time together.

i know you guys had a fab time…i followed it on IG 🙂
Kerry says
I tried not to over share but we did so much too!
Lauren says
That sounds like a great trip with lots of yummy food! And you poor New Englander, not knowing enough about BBQ – the tomatoey sauce is more TX style and that’s where it’s at, none of that NC stuff :P. Though I would love to visit NC one day for the food, I would likely pass on BBQ since I get so much at home!
Kerry says
Haha! I know, I did try both though. You really should and of course I need a visit to Texas too! 😉
Biana says
So glad that you had a wonderful time and that first meal – YUM!! I love going to see movies in the park – it’s always such a treat!
Kerry says
It was such a great trip. I’m still full from all the food we ate!! The outdoor movie was so fun, Boston is having some this summer.

I love these pictures! You do such a great job capturing scenes. I’ve never been to North Carolina BUT I’d love to go! And that food tho… drool!
Kerry says
Awww thanks! They were the best guides! We fit so much into such a short time. I will be going again for sure!! The food was the best! 🙂
Kelli says
Eastern BBQ sauce (vinegar based) is the best! It’s one of my favorite lessons from my move south all those years ago.
It looks like you had so much fun!
Kerry says
I had to try both so I cut the sandwich in half and try both. I liked both though I’d go traditional more often. It was fun to learn and try them both. We had a blast and so many giggles and laughs.
Kate says
I’ve never been to Raleigh but I really want to after your visit!
Kerry says
It was such a great place. So many fun places to go to and we didn’t even scratch the surface!
Nadine says
Your food pictures have me drooling. mmmmm. And peanut butter fudge? My favorite!!!! I have never been to Raleigh.

Amanda says
So glad you had such an awesome time! Jealous of your outdoor movie! Always wanted to do that!
Kerry says
It was such an amazing time. One of these days I am heading your way, or you need to come here!
Jodi says
I really can’t believe you drove through the night alone. I would have fallen asleep so many times. Glad you go there and had fun. Can’t wait to read the rest. I lived in NC for 4 years so it holds a special place in my heart!
Kerry says
I guess I got used to it from my college road trips. I did stop once but driving in the dark is much harder. I didn’t know that, what part? It really is a beautiful place.
jackie says
awww looks like a fun time. long drives are a pain but it’s worth it when you get to have a fun weekend with a good friend!
Kerry says
It was such a great time. It was rough going down in the dark but so very worth it.
Christy@SweetandSavoring says
Ooh I would love to try those fried green tomatoes (and of course, I can’t help but think of the movie)!
I love that giant acorn, haha. I visited NC in January but haven’t made it to Raleigh yet. A future visit for sure! Moving on to part 2 now…
🙂
Kerry says
Haha! I thought the same thing when we ordered them. They were really good, the goat cheese and mandarin was a good combination. It is so worth the trip and lots to see and do.
Nichole says
Loving Part One of your trip! I love outdoor movies on the lawn, we don’t get to go often in Tampa because I hate being hot, but it’s always so fun. I am seriously all about some fried green tomatoes!
Kerry says
It was nice because it was late enough that it was pretty cooler than it was during the day. Really can’t resist them either!
Lara says
Ok, I apparently read part 2 first. I’m glad you got to visit Raleigh as well as Durham! And your pictures really make me want to go to the Twisted Fork, I haven’t been there in a while!
Kerry says
Haha! Yes, we couldn’t leave out Raleigh. The twisted fork was really good, and I would mind more fried green tomatoes.
Stacia says
Man you must be tired! It looks like you’ve had a great time, though, which is the important thing for sure!
Kerry says
It was exhausting driving so much and my house is a mess right now but totally worth it!!
Ellesees.blogspot.com says
bbq is taken very seriously down here in the south! we call it carolina bbq. i’m a fan of the other type of bbq! no vinegar! and we call it grilling or grilling out, no bbqing. i know other places do that too, but it’s a southern thing too!
Kerry says
It is, the BBQ and grilling/cookout debate is real! Haha! I tried both but the original BBQ is more my type.
Janna says
I LOVE North Carolina. We hope to get stationed there in the near future! That BBQ makes my mouth water.
Kerry says
It was so beautiful and the people was just the best part. I hope you do too, so you can experience it. So amazing there.
