I wish I could tell you that I spent my first weekend off in forever by hiking and tip toeing out in nature but that would be oh so wrong. This virus is kicking my butt and not going away. It went from bad to worse. It moved from my throat into my sinuses and my nose won’t stop dripping. Sorry for the visual but welcome to my weekend. I went through a whole box of tissues in 24 hours. So to say my weekend wasn’t exciting is an understatement. I did get a lot of rest and a few other things done though.
Friday: I finished the book The Truth About Alice which was really good. It is the story of what rumors can do to a girls reputation and how she manages to live through it, told from those who helped spread the rumors and the one who helped her find her way. Loved it!
Saturday: I tried to do some errands around the house but then got sucked into an HBO documentary called One Nation Under Dog – Stories of Fear, Loss and Betrayal. Seriously do not watch it if you don’t have a box of tissues handy! I bawled through the whole thing then realized I had to get ready for my hair appointment in 25 minutes. It pulled me in but was so sad. The first part was a dog bite story, the middle was on mourning the loss of a pet, and the third about shelters and euthanizing. Eye opening and so grateful I volunteered at a no kill shelter. I would have been scarred for life.
I headed out for my haircut and took a before picture of course. I had to wait till I got home since she really rushed the styling so I had to re-do it before I could take the after picture. I thought she would have recommended cutting off more but it was only about an inch. Phew. I am always traumatized when I cut my hair. It is finally getting to the length I want it. Then after a quick grocery trip I crashed on the couch for a nap. Seamus was a little too sassy pants so it wasn’t that restful. Clearly this is not the face of someone wanting to nap.
After I woke up I watched About Time and Dallas Buyers Club before passing out for the night.
Sunday: I cleaned around the house for a bit, I even washed the curtains and windows so I could open them up for some fresh air. I started a new book that I am almost done with and really liking it too. The book How To Fall is about a girl trying to find out what happened to her cousin who mysteriously died when she jumped or was pushed over a cliff a year ago. She looks eerily like her and her spending the summer in the town is bring out all the secrets surrounding her death.
I also did some recipe testing with an Eggplant Parmesan which came out really well though when I make it again it will have less cheese. Can’t believe I am saying that but it’s true. I also made a garlic bread with smoked Gouda and bacon.
I then took another nap and read my book. Took Seamus for a walk and a little photo shoot for this week’s Picture Practice which had a prompt of animals. You know Seamus was getting the spotlight because a squirrel just wouldn’t cut it. I had a hard time picking a favorite so you get two.
*Aside from resizing I didn’t edit at all.
How was your weekend?

Your new haircut looks great! Hopping over to say hello because Kathy told me to. =)
Kerry says
Thank you so much! Kathy is a touch chick so we must listen! 😉
Kerri @ Simplicity Interrupted says
Girl, you are PRODUCTIVE for being a bit sick still!! I’m adding these books to my GoodReads to-read shelf – they look great. Happy Monday!
Kerry says
Thanks!! It was more being lazy than anything. No moving is required to read! 🙂 I really liked both books. Happy Monday!!
Linda Sheridan says
Glad you were able to rest more. Allergy season is back, too. I am stuffy and have itchy eyeballs.
I cannot even watch the SPCA dog commercials asking for donations. I always light all those who are sick, hurting, neglected, and abused- especially children and animals! Any abuse is sickening.
Lovely hair and adorable pictures. Have a wonderful week.
Love SMD’s Momma
Kerry says
Hope you are not suffering too bad with allergies. It was so horrible to watch. It breaks my heart. Hope you have a great week!
Kelli says
The Truth About Alice sounds really interesting, I wouldn’t think of writing a story like that from that point of view.
I love your Seamus pictures! It’s so hard to get good dog pictures, they’re always moving!
Kerry says
It was really good and you get the mean girls perspective in the shallow reasons for doing it. The outtakes were funny, so much movement and waiting. Haha!
Biana says
I always have anxiety about cutting my hair – so glad you like how she cut yours!! That meal sounds amazing – especially the garlic bread – YUM!!
Kerry says
I always hate losing length, but she understands even if she suggested me coming in more often! 😉
I am glad there is leftovers for the week!
birdietobe says
That first book sounds great. Thanks for the recommendation! And I love your cut.
Kerry says
So many good books to read lately! Hope you like it! Thank you, I was happy I didn’t lose a lot of length.
Sharon says
Aww you poor thing! I hope you feel better! I think that documentary would’ve made me cry too…maybe it’s a good thing I don’t have HBO 🙂
-Sharon
Kerry says
It was so sad! It was a free weekend for HBO for direct tv customers so I got to watch a lot of fun shows I never get to otherwise. 🙂
Meg says
Those photos of Seamus are great!! I’m sorry that you’re not feeling well, but for someone’s who’s sick, you got A TON done!! I really need to keep paying attention when you suggest books, I haven’t liked anything I’ve tried to read lately, but seriously, both of these sound amazing. Also, I can’t believe you said the words “less cheese” lol!!! Feel better, friend!
Kerry says
Thanks! I felt like a lazy bum but at least I got some stuff done. I really liked them both and they were free from NetGalley. Score. I couldn’t believe it either but it was like 8-10 cups of cheese. Sort of takes the healthy out of eggplant. 😉
Rachael says
OMG that recipe looks great! I will have to check it out!
Kerry says
Thanks! I will be posting it soon just need to work on the cheese ratio. 🙂
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
So sorry you’re not feeling well. I hope you’re 100% soon!
Love those photos of Seamus, he looks so happy.
Kerry says
Thanks I hope so too. He is such a happy go lucky dog it is always fun to get that on camera! 😉
Jessica says
Girl, have you been to the doctor? GO!! I hope you start feeling better soon!
Kerry says
I went last Wednesday and she told me it would start to shift but man oh man it’s been hell. Hopefully I am on the tail end of it.
Emily T says
Feel better soon! Drink a lot of tea and sleep as much as possible! Loving your new hair. Looks much lighter and bouncier.
Get well soon!
Kerry says
Thank you! I really need more sleep for sure. 😉 It feels so much healthier!
Amanda says
Love your link-up pics of S$! 🙂
“though when I make it again it will have less cheese.” Go wash your mouth out with soap.
Kerry says
I never thought I’d say that but the recipe called for 4 different cheeses for a total of like 8-10 cups of cheese. Even using less than that my tummy was rumbling. Haha!
Nadine says
Seamus and the side tongue! Love it!!
I hoe you feel better soon!
Kerry says
The side tongue gets me every time! Thank you so much!
Emily says
Love the new “do” Eggplant Parm sounds amazing!
Kerry says
Thank you. Good to get the dead ends cut off. It was good, my first time eating it too.
Leeann @ Join the Gossip says
You poor thing! A few years back I had a really bad cold that would not quit. It would go away for a month then come back for three. I think it’s still floating around. I hope you don’t have that. Despite feeling bad, you look good! Loving the hair.
I can’t do anything with animals, especially dogs. I freak out. There was a dog in bad shape that I saw a few weeks ago. I tried helping but I couldn’t. I still feel guilty and sick to my stomach every day about it.
Eggplant parm is one of my favorites. It looks SO good!
Thanks for liking up 🙂
Kerry says
I am hoping it will only hang on another day or two. It is so hard to see them defenseless and hurting. It was awful. It was actually my first time making it so I was really pleased with how it came out. I’ll be sharing the recipe soon. 🙂
Jana @ The Townhouse Pioneer says
Glad you’re starting to feel better. Those in-between seasons colds and viruses are the worst!
I think I have seen that documentary. If it’s the one I’m thinking of, ugly, ugly cries. I hugged my dogs for about 20 minutes after that one.
Kerry says
It is horrible but it seems to always happen between seasons. Ugly tears through the whole thing, it was brutal.
Kimberlee VDW (@KimberleeVDW) says
Aw sorry to hear about the virus. Hope you feel better soon! At least you got your hair done 😉
Oh god I think I shall avoid that HBO documentary. I hate animal cruelty so much so I know I would cry my eyes out.
Thanks for linking up 🙂
Kerry says
Thank you. It was a much needed haircut and it feel much healthier now. It was horribly sad. I couldn’t look away but wished I didn’t watch it.
Lindsay @brokeandbougie says
Bahhh One Nation Under Dog- cried through the entire thing. Loveeee it. Also the Alice book is on my reading list too! Hope you feel better soon!
Kerry says
It was so horribly sad! I think you will like it, sad but triumphant. Thank you.
Kristen says
“The Truth About Alice” sounds really interesting. I think I’ll give it a try. Thanks for sharing!!
Kerry says
It was really good and makes you think, but not too heavy where you get depressed after, she is such a strong character. Very welcome! 😉
Anna says
I had that sickness too, it was awful! Hope you’re on the mend! Cute pup pics!!
Kerry says
Thanks, hopefully in another day or two. Seamus loves to show off! 😉
jackie says
both of those books sound really good – will need to add to my list (even though i’ve been reading sooooo slowly lately). and i could never watch that documentary. i cry at sad animal commercials. hope you feel better soon!
kellee says
Eggplant parm is like my favvvvvorite!!!!! Hope you feel better soon!!!
Erin says
i love your hair you are so pretty!!!
Kerry says
Thank you so much! I think you are very pretty so that means a lot.
Kate @ Another Clean Slate says
Love the hair!! And can’t wait for the eggplant parm recipe which I think you should share 🙂
Your current read is on my list- will be interested what you think when you’re done.
Kerry says
Thank you. I will be sharing it soon. I really liked it. The relationship between the Mom of Jess and the Dad of Will was a little weird, and his Dad was so weird for being a police officer, little creepy but the overall story was really good and worth the read. Looking forward to the second book.
Brianne Bracco says
Your hair looks fab my friend!!! I wish I had your beautiful length!
Kerry says
Thank you. It took a long time to grow it out after cutting off 8 inches so I try to cut off much! 😉
Melanie @ Ribbons and Rotor Blades says
Your haircut is so cute!!! Looks great on you!!!
Kerry says
Thank you! I really only cut like an inch off but I am a little over dramatic when it comes to my hair. 🙂
Alli says
Love your new hair!! And both of these books sound super interesting! Time to add some things to my reading list!
Kerry says
Thank you. It wasn’t much but I can’t stand to lose length. I read a little too much but both were worth reading.
