I was lucky enough to have Friday off due to the impending snow storm we were expecting. Does this make anyone else but me feel like a kid waiting to find out if school was closed?? I want to say dreams of playing in the snow danced in my head but really it was dreams of not leaving my PJ’s and lots of hot cocoa. The one downside meant lots of shoveling (I even helped my neighbor shovel her side of the driveway) and a sore back i.e I am old and I was out of commission the rest of Friday and Saturday.
Friday: Included lots of shoveling, and hot cocoa. I got in a lot of reading and started watching White Collar on Netflix. Why have I not watched this show before now? It is so good. Seamus was staring out the window at the snow falling. He has a love hate relationship with snow, being so short he can’t get on it but when he does he loves flipping it in the air.
Saturday: I am not really sure how I come up with recipes to make, sometimes it is just an ingredient and a meal time (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and I build from that idea. Sometimes I build from pulling elements from three different sources. Funny thing this week, one of the ingredients came from the index when I searched for pie crust and saw the word pear. In that sucker goes into the recipe. Welcome to my brain.
I headed out to do some shopping (I needed a new Winter coat and it was in my clothing budget – no spend January is still in effect) and then to the grocery store and the library. Emily from Beauty and the Greek recommended this Peppermint Mocha coffee creamer in her favorite things post on Friday and I just had to give it a try. It did not disappoint. It is more mocha than Peppermint but still so yummy! I finished off the night watching more White Collar and knitting.
Sunday: I finally finished the cowl/neck warmer I was working on. It was a tough one, I prefer to mindlessly knit but this one has a lot of pattern changes so it made it hard for me to get into this one. I really just wanted to finish it. I like how it came out though. Seamus was pouting a little from being inside all day so I took him for a walk but then I had to carry him home for a bit because his feet got too cold and he started to whimper! #littledogproblems #thatswhatyougetforjumpinginthesnow
I also put together this rustic tart that I am going to share tomorrow.
How was your weekend?
Did you get snow where you live?

i’m working from home today – the traffic is HIDEOUS right now due to the freezing rain and snow we had last night and early this morning. and if traffic is horrible INSIDE my neighbourhood, i can’t even imagine what it’s like on the main roads. being stuck in traffic for two hours just to show my face at the office when i can get to work right now at home and not have to ruin my day? YES PLEASE.
also, i LOVE that cowl!!!!
Kerry says
Ugh I feel ya girl! Much better to stay and work from home. We had rain so thankfully some of the snow here is melting. We are supposed to get more though this week. 🙁 Thank you, it was a pain in the butt though I really love how it turned out.
Brianna Clark says

Kerry says
It was a perfect weekend! Just being able to relax and do nothing was such a treat. Thank you.
Erin says
snow days as an adult are 100000000 times better than as a kid!!
Kerry says
Couldn’t agree more, well except for the shoveling part!! I loved just lounging around doing nothing.
Renee @ Gettin Fit Fab says
My boyfriend makes me very happy :), also all the future plans that we have for one another♥
Kerry says
That is a very good one. Hope 2014 is a great year for you two!
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
Your cowl is gorgeous!
I shoveled my neighbors’ out (they were returning from FL late that night) and considered that my exercise.
Kerry says
Thank you, I was really glad when it was done! I totally consider it exercise, that stuff is hard and I couldn’t move after! Haha!
Liz @ Fitness Blondie says
White Collar?! What is this show you speak of? What tis it about? Also, you need to write a cookbook. Food Bloggers bore me to tears, but you do the best concoctions. The breakfast pizza, now that tart? Looks delicious. Can’t wait to see the recipe. Love you to the moon and back.
Kerry says
It is about a con artist turned FBI consultant. Aww thank you. I just throw stuff together too. Haha! Love you chica!!
Amanda says
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of White Collar… what’s it about?!
Poor Seamus’ little feetsies!!!
Kerry says
It is about a con artist who breaks out of jail but then gets hired by the FBI to consult on white collar crimes. It stars Matt Boomer, and Tiffany Amber Thiessen is in it too.
Nikki @ The Pink Growl says
I wish I got off for snow!!!! It snowed both Friday & last night here (nothing major though) but I still had to come in!
Kerry says
Yeah we usually don’t but since we have negative temps they decided to close. I was so grateful too since the roads were really bad on Thursday.
Claire Duffy says
I’m so jealous of all that snow – I’m in Sweden for heaven’s sake and it’s mild and rainy – gutted! Suits is on my to-watch list – thanks for the recommendation!
Kerry says
Trust me it only looks glamorous when you get to watch it behind a window in a heated home! 😉 The negative temps made it brutal to be outside. You are very welcome, I need to check out Suits now too. Thanks!
Claire Duffy says
Haha I actually meant White Collar – it’s been a loooong day!!
Kerry says
No worries! I know how those can go.
Lauren says
You’re such a good neighbor to help shovel! People here say they want snow but we would lose our minds if we had it! We occasionally have ice days where they think the roads will ice and everything gets cancelled. They are few and far between but I love them!
Kerry says
Thanks! If my family didn’t live here I would pick up and move to Texas. I really can’t stand the snow or cold. Snow days are the best though!
Racing Bananas says
I can’t wait for tomorrow’s recipe! Yay for snow days – my boss told me to work from home today, so I’m enjoying answering emails in my pjs!
Kerry says
Thank you! Yeah for working from home and in PJ’s. Those are the best days really! Enjoy it!
Danae says
Gosh I love all the food you post. You can come visit now!
Kerry says
Haha!! Thanks girl!! Let me know when it gets really warm and i am on my way! 😉
Jessica says
I want a cowl like that! Too cute!
Kerry says
I would totally make you one but that pattern was the death of me. Maybe a different cable pattern though.
Leeann @ Join the Gossip says
I love that even though it was about 70 degrees colder in MA than CA you STILL did more than me lol! I think SoCal should get summer days off when it’s too hot. We don’t get squat…lol but then again it’s 80 here today and not freezing so I guess we have that.
And for the giveaway – meeting new bloggers makes me smile. Congrats on your milestone again!
Thanks for linking up for MMG 🙂
Kerry says
Haha!! I seriously did it in between lots of TV watching!! You should like it gets above 100?? I really don’t feel bad for you!!! 😉
Thank you, and congrats on yours I am so impressed that you have been blogging for 6 years! That is a huge accomplishment to be proud of!!
Helene says
i def. feel like a kid waiting to hear if i have to go to class, errr work that day. it’s freezing in dallas, but no snow!
Kerry says
I totally would prefer no snow, but it is pretty when looking through the window from a warm couch! 😉
Jodi says
SO glad the snow melted today. I was so happy to come home to a clean driveway!!!
Kerry says
I know right!! I am hoping we have a mild rest of January and February!
