I hope everyone spent some time yesterday remembering those who have fought for our freedom, and continue to fight. I spent a good portion of this weekend close to home either shopping, cleaning, reading, sleeping or watching Scandal. It was such a relaxing weekend but no major happening. I want this to be a light week so I can get back on track with a few things so I am taking a page from Lauren’s book telling us what she wanted us to write about.
There are so many things in my life that make me happy but these are a few of my favorites in no particular order:
1. Seamus – No surprise there right?! You really can’t have a bad day around this little cutie!
Then one Easter weekend, tragedy comes to call. The event is so devastating that, almost imperceptibly, it begins to tear the family apart. Years pass as the children become adults, find new relationships, and develop their own separate lives. Soon it seems as though they’ve never been a family at all. But then something happens that calls them back to the house they grew up in — and to what really happened that Easter weekend so many years ago.
Told in gorgeous, insightful prose that delves deeply into the hearts and minds of its characters, The House We Grew Up In is the captivating story of one family’s desire to restore long-forgotten peace and to unearth the many secrets hidden within the nooks and crannies of home.
4. Text Messages from friends – Really just connecting with them makes me happy. *To protect the innocent no pics of this one. 😉
5. Spending time with my family – Aren’t they just adorable?!
Bathroom re-do last year.
8. Victoria’s Secret EVERYTHING – I may have ordered some more workout gear this weekend, okay I did. 🙂
10. Volunteering / Giving Back – This is something that I have always enjoyed. I found Seamus while I was volunteering at an Animal Shelter, I have sat with the elderly at the hospital and written to soldiers serving overseas. I am doing the Random Acts of Kindess for Be The Change but I am thinking I want to maybe volunteer somewhere local again. There is a horse farm that needs volunteers that I am looking into if it will fit into my schedule. Either way big or small giving back always make me happy.
These are just a few of the things that make me happy. There is so many small things everyday that make me happy, you just have to notice them.
What are some things that make you happy?
Kelly (@KRod0519) says
I love this list! We share many of the same enjoyments. 🙂 When we spend some time each day in gratitude and really look at the blessings in our lives, we live a happier life. When you look around, life is pretty amazing. Great post! And Seamus does have the cutest face. <3 I want a dog so badly, but right now, it's not the right time. So I live vicariously through other dog lovers. Have a great week!
Kerry says
It really is pretty amazing! Thank you, he gets me every time. He had some left over Greek yogurt this morning and he came into the kitchen with his whole face covered in yogurt residue, it was precious! Have a great week!
kathy@vodkandsoda says
lovely post, lady (as always). hiking/trails are my JAM but you already know that. this past sunday was such a gorgeous morning for a trail run and i swear, i can never tire from seeing those trails.
i also find joy in my coffee. before, it used to just get me through the day but now i actually go to sleep excited to wake up and be able to drink coffee!
Kerry says
Thank you! It is just the best being out on the trails. Your IG pics were great! Coffee really is the best part about the morning.
Linda sheridan says
I agree on everything but Victoria’s Secret!
Love our healing ocean oasis- our saltwater
Pool. Grateful every day especially now that
The season has started. Never did I dream
I would have a cement pond( the tv show
the Beverly Hillbillies referred to their pool as
A cement pond lol ) like the ocean in our back
Yard. No traffic, no sand. Next best thing
Would be a beachfront home. What a beauty
Of a weekend.
Love, SMD’s Momma
Kerry says
There really is healing in the sound of the ocean. Haha! A cement pond is the best. That really does sound like perfection!
Lauren says
I love that so many things you love and do are outside the norm. I don’t think I’ve ever known anyone who owns a kayak and I’ve never had the opportunity to get in one. And, volunteering at a horse shelter is so different! I love mugs from Homegoods and yay for niece time! I hope you have a very happy week!
Kerry says
I never claimed to be normal! Haha! Ohhh Kayaking is the best and being so close to the lake helps. I have gone horseback riding and love it. It is really expensive though so volunteering is second best. They are such powerful animals. I totally should have been born in the country. Home Goods is my weakness so many cute things!
Kateri Von Steal says
I loved your entire list. Top to Bottom.
Happy Tuesday Lady!
Just trying to catch up all my reading from the LONG weekend! ha~
Kerry says
Thank you. I know that feeling! I tried not to do any blogging this weekend.
Biana says
Well all those things make me happy too – although I don’t have a doggie but I’m sure that would make me happy too lol! Random but I love your shower curtain!!
Kerry says
Yes a puppy brings so many smiles. Thank you, that was the hardest part of the whole renovation, finding a curtain to match the idea in my head. Home Goods for the win!
Sharon says
The beach makes me happy too! I’ve got to pick up a bunch of good books for some beach reading this summer 🙂
-Sharon
Kerry says
There are so many great books coming out this summer. Sitting on the beach with a book, is the perfect day!
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
Books! I’ve been in a slump so this one that kicked me out of it is awesome. I’m very pleased.
Dogs, beach, sitting in my yard when the neighborhood is quiet, flowers, sleeping with the windows open. Just a few of my happy things!
Kerry says
Which books? I hate being in a slump or being so busy you don’t get as much time to read. Glad you found your reading mojo again. Sleeping with the windows open is a good one.
Stephanie says
Seamus makes ME happy. I love seeing that little face in my newsfeed, he’s the first thing I click!
Kerry says
Awww thanks! He will be very happy to hear that one. He pulled the greek yogurt container out of the trash this morning and stuck his whole head in. Then came breezing into the kitchen covered in yogurt remnants. It was too funny.
Tori says
My computer just went into cute overload with those nieces and Seamus ! They are adorable!
Kerry says
Thank you. They melt my heart but I am biased! 😉
Melissa @ Loving Life Moore says
Isn’t it so nice to be able to decorate your own place?! Ryan and I, unfortunately, live on post right now, but we can’t wait to someday own our own home and make it the way WE want. LOVE that shower curtain, by the way!
Kerry says
I love it. It gets expensive but it is really fun to make it your own! Even just paint can make a huge difference. The curtain was the hardest to find but really added to the overall look, so thank you.
Chloe says
Oh man the beach looks amazing. I’ve never been to the beach. I want to go so bad. I might never leave though. They can’t make me. I’ll be a beach hobo. Is that a thing?
How do you pick books? Most of the ones you read sound so good. When I go to the book store I can’t ever find anything that interests me.
Kerry says
I would totally be a beach bum too if I lived on the ocean. I find most of them through Goodreads. The more friends you add the more recommendation you get about what they are reading.
I also am part of NetGalley where I search by genre and just pick what gets my attention. They both send emails too with recommendations which gets me adding a lot to my ever growing list. 😉
helene says
I loe seeing things that make others happy! coffee is definitely happy!! I am on the hunt for a new book! i need to check this out!
Kerry says
Coffee is my favorite part of the morning. It was not what I was expecting but it is really good.
Jana @ The Townhouse Pioneer says
Dogs, books, the beach, and replace coffee with tea for me. I also get a huge thrill out of finding a movie I love on TV or Netflix.
Kerry says
Finding a good movie is really good, or a classic that you haven’t seen in awhile that just happens to be on!
Kristen says
yes to all of these! and i just love your shower curtain!
Kerry says
Thank you. It was so hard to find one that would fit with the colors I wanted to go with but Home Goods saved the day!
Jamie says
My kids, sunshine, and wine makes me happy 🙂
Kerry says
Ohhh I forgot wine! Well you do have really cute kids! 🙂
Liz @ Fitness Blondie says
You are the best of the best Kerry. You always give back and I love your random act of kindness link up you always do. I am still contemplating on how I can make a difference, but I have a few ideas. Have you been able to hike lately? And I love Seamus too!!! He is the best! LOVE YOU GIRL
Kerry says
Thank you! It rained every day this weekend so I didn’t get out other then walks with Seamus but I am hoping to get out this weekend.
Kelli says
Books and the beach both make me happy!
I’m glad you had a relaxing long weekend, now we start counting down to the 4th of July long weekend!
Kerry says
Books on the beach and it’s even better! 🙂 I really could just sit on the beach and read all day. I need a countdown to it. It was so nice to just sit, relax and enjoy.
Jessica says
I ordered some more VS last week. I mean, they sent me a $10 credit! How could I not??
Kerry says
You can’t let that go to waste! That was why I ordered too! I had a reward card for $10 off that expired yesterday and then I got an email for first dibs to the semi-annual sale. I am toast!
Lady Lilith says
Yesterday I spend the day with family and the evening with friends. It was nice to have the day off to celebrate those we love best. We also spend a little time remembering all the troops have done for us.
Kerry says
That sounds like the perfect day! Remembering all they have sacrificed is so important.
Emily says
Yes, all great things! Especially time with family, the beach and splurging at VS!
Nadine says
I love this list! That book sounds great, I need to look into goodreads, so many people talk about it!
I LOVE those shelves in your bathroom!
Hope you have a great week!
Kerry says
Thank you! Oh you should if you are not on it. It is so good for keeping track of what you have read, what you want to read, and you get to see what your friends are reading so that you can get recommendations. I may have over 250+ on my to-read list. Oops.
Thank you. They really added the depth of color I wanted. Hope you have a great week too!
Kate says
Do you like the book you’re reading? You didn’t say and I must know if I should download 🙂
Kerry says
I am only halfway through but so far so good!! Lots of family dynamics.
Melanie @ Ribbons and Rotor Blades says
The beach! OMG yes! There is just something about sitting or laying there and listening to the waves crash on the shore as you feel the breeze. So relaxing! That is absolutely my happy place!
Kerry says
It is so relaxing! I could spend all my days there, it always seems to calm me. All those vitamins! 😉
jackie says

Kerry says
Thank you! I am halfway through and in really liking it so far! Haha! It is expensive when something breaks but even paint makes a huge difference!
Meg says
Seriously, I LOVE being a home owner, too! It’s so fun to accomplish projects around the house. Seamus is the cutest dog ever, if I haven’t said that a million times in the past!!
Kerry says
It really is fun making it your own! My half bath is next! Thank you, he always makes me smile with his cuteness!
Nichole C says

Kerry says

Brianne Bracco says
What a fabulous love list my friend! I share in that coffee love with you and I never realized your VS collection! Dang girl! But know that over half of this list is all in what you work for…be proud of it…cause you’re pretty awesome 😉
Kerry says
Thank you. Coffee is the thing of gods! Haha! It is a huge one but it is mostly dresses and workout gear. 😉 I think anyone can have whatever they put their minds too. It can happen you just have to want it. I think you are pretty awesome too, so thank you!
Jodi says
Nieces are the BEST!!! So cute! I’m jealous of you re: owning home. I hate that I dump SO much money into rent every month. Do you need a roommate? Lol. Trying to figure out what I can do to save money. I love living in the city but it is so expensive.
Kerry says
Haha! Don’t tempt me! Owning is really expensive. I could never afford property in Boston it’s crazy!
Amber says
I also love reading. And the beach. We’ll be there mid-June. Yay!
Kerry says
Woohoo!! Perfect time for lazy beach days too!
Gloria // Simply Gloria says
Kerry, what a great list of happy things! I love waking up to the birds chirping, too. Maybe that’s why my middle name is Dawn… it’s my fave part of the day! Love your style of the redo in the bathroom… super chic!
Kerry says
It is the most peaceful sound. The stillness in the morning is perfect! Thank you, I was so proud of it. 🙂
Ellesees.blogspot.com says

Parking it on the beach all day is the best! Hope you had fun. Loved all your Instagram pics!
