Thanksgiving Worthy Cranberry Pear Sauce

As you may or may not know I am not a fan of Turkey. My poor day unknowingly ruined it for me when I was 12 and basically all meat on the bone. I did attempt to eat it last year but really the ham was better. What I do love though is the cranberry sauce. We normally have gotten the cranberry sauce in the can, and while I still really like it for some reason I feel like I should expand my taste buds for something a little more decadent. While the taste is decadent this recipe is really fairly easy.

Thanksgiving Worthy Cranberry Pear Sauce
Ingredients: 2 TBSP Honey ~ 1/2 TSP Ground Cinnamon ~ 1 cup Water ~ 1 pear – diced ~ 12 oz of Fresh Cranberries ~ 1/4 cup truvia (or sugar)

Directions: In a medium saucepan boil the water, cinnamon and honey until the honey is dissolved. Rinse the cranberries then add to the pan with the diced pear.

cranberry_Sauce
Bring back to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes, stirring periodically so you don’t scorch it.

cranberry_Sauce-1
You will hear the cranberries popping open. Remove from heat and then mash lightly with a fork, add the truvia a little at a time to taste. Let the sauce cool in the fridge, it will start to thicken the longer it sits. I did try it warm though and it was just as good.

I served over some rotisserie chicken and I can see it paired with lots of dishes. I like most about this recipe is that it uses real ingredients.  It is easy but packs a lot of flavor and will be perfect in a sandwich with any of those leftovers.

Do you like cranberry sauce?

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

Work For Rest

Hello Monday. I almost don’t mind you since I will work less at work than I did this weekend! It was hectic, and I barely sat down all weekend but I did get a lot done even if my to-do list is still half full. How do other people do it? I’ll try to spare you as much as I can but here is what my weekend looked like.

Friday: After work and walking Seamus I went to Lowe’s to get some supplies for a few new projects. I also stopped into Old Navy because I can’t help myself. I started my second book for the Winter Book Challenge.

Saturday: It was an early morning hustle with a quick breakfast before decluttering my spare bedroom closet. I ended up getting rid of two large trash bags for donation and one bag for my friends to go through. Then I vacuumed and febreezed my car, it was smelling like dog.

I also made use of some free samples I received from Gorilla Glue and fixed a fence post that was loose after I scrubbed the whole thing down. Their epoxy is amazing and I am not just saying that because it was free. I also raked the yard so I could make room for another wood project. It took me a few hours so I didn’t get to sit down till about 3pm so I used the rest of the night to clean and put away what I could. I finally sat down around 8 pm to some of my magazines that have been piling up.

saturday
Sunday: I woke up early and finished my book. A quick trip to the grocery store, was all I had time for before heading over to my brothers house. My niece had him call me on Friday and said she missed me so of course I had to go visit. They are both so adorable, they actually wanted to share a room. Awww.

Sunday
On the way home I stopped at Target and the grocery store since they didn’t have Rotisserie chicken when I went so early. Once home I went on a rampage hanging a bunch of different pictures that I had been meaning to do for week but didn’t have time. It only took one extra trip to the hardware store too. The night was spent on meal prepping, including some paleo Chocolate Banana bread for breakfast, and a cranberry pear sauce which I will be sharing the recipe for tomorrow. The rest of the night which was too short was spent catching up on email and blogging. Don’t get to jealous of my boring-ness.

What I Have Been Reading

When I searched through my Goodreads list I noticed I didn’t read nearly as much as I thought I had this month. Then I remembered how full of other projects there were in October. It does end up being just over a book a week so I can’t really complain. I feel like with the Winter coming my book choices will get a little more heavy in subject matter though a few lighter romances will always sneak in. I read everyday even if it is only for 5 pages. Normally I try to read in the morning before work and just before bed. If you aren’t already feel free to follow me on Goodreads to see what else I am reading.  Clicking on the book covers will take you to the Goodreads page for that book.

The Widow Smalls

I was really torn with this book as it was a group of short stories and after the second story I wanted to end reading this book. The stories ended with no clear understanding to the point of why the story was even told. It painted farm life as hard, which I can imagine is true but it also painted the male characters to be loud and abusive. Again while I imagine it to be true in some cases it came across as very biased. What saved this book a little was The Good War which carried through for multiple chapters but it again ended abruptly with no definitive ending.

The final story is the Widow Smalls, the patriarch in the story is mean and aggressive though he has died, his temper has effected Leah his widow. She takes on a farm hand that others in her small bigoted town can’t handle. She finds herself looking forward to the next day so she can help on the farm even though her brothers-in-law are trying to buy her out and make life difficult for her. This story was the title story and would have been best as a stand alone story and helped push it into enjoyable for me overall.

White Lies

The main character of this book Natalie is an accountant in a struggling shoe company. She meets a man in the elevator and the attraction is instant. She soon learns he is a consultant hired to help the struggling business. Natalie gets overheard about how outdated and dreary the designs have been and while it is used to try to get her in trouble, it actually helps her get a position in the team to come up with new ideas.

While Natalie decides to use the want ads to find her perfect man, she realizes she may have already found him. The secondary characters add to the story without distracting from the main story life.

Just a Little Crush

Brinley and Ryder shared a kiss in high school during a game of spin the bottle which ended up with Brinley in the pool and Ryder making fun of her. Later in college they meet at a party where another guy is trying to make his move on Brinley and Ryder tries to intervene. Ryder warns her off but also can’t stay away.

What I really liked about this book was Ryder, he has some of the good guy charm even if he has a rocky past. He is really protective of Brinley and tries to do the right thing. Brinley has a rocky past as well, her mother is an alcoholic and Brinley is always having to deal with her vicious attacks on her verbally. Both Brinley and Ryder are relatable. Brinley’s best friend Mason and roommate Fallon add even more character, and left me hoping for a series.

Champagne and Lemon Drops

Beth finds herself torn between two men. While her fiance breaks up with her to “find himself” she finds herself lost and confused. After 8 long months of trying to give him time and mixed emotions she decides it’s time to move on. Enter Nash the sophisticated and well travelled new doctor from the city. He shows interest and shows her what she has been missing.

Her fiance seems to want to do something new but at the same token doesn’t want Beth to try anyone new. My only criticism was how Nash was handled or mishandled throughout the story.

Lincoln finds a job working in IT at a newspaper before realizing it was the third shift and encompassed reading peoples emails for policy violations. When he comes upon the exchanges of two employees Jennifer and Beth he can’t help but laugh and delete it without sending them a warning. Through these exchanges Lincoln begins to fall for Beth.

Things I liked about this book: Jennifer and Beth were funny and you felt like you could be friends with them. Lincoln was adorably shy and sweet. Trying to figure out his life. His relationship with Doris an older co-worker, who he shared his lunch with was really sweet.

Things I didn’t necessary like: the sister and mother were really unsupportive for no reason other than wanting to hold onto their idea of him. The weird level of both of them “stalking” each other. That the end was a little rushed, and some really cheesy cliche lines.

Overall the writing was good and between Lincoln, Beth, Jennifer and Doris the characters were very like able. Totally worth the read!

What are you reading?

Will you be adding any of these to your reading list?

A Weekend of Bliss

I really want to rewind this weekend and do it all again. Being able to spend a whole day with local bloggers and getting to connect with so many was amazing. We also got to create some crafts and learn some tips on taking certain pictures. So much fun. Sunday was equal parts relaxing and productive.

Saturday: I drove into Boston to pick up Kate and head to Copley Place to the Home For The Holidays blogger conference being held by WayFair and Boston Blogger it was being held between 10am-6pm. We had two key note speakers and then broke out into different groups including DIY gift tags, SEO tips, Pendant Banners, Tabletop styling, and Menu planning. We finished up with a cocktail hour before ending the night. It was such an amazing day and seriously made me wish I worked there, I even took pictures of the furniture because I want to make one for my tons of photo props.

Saturday

Sunday: The morning was off to it’s usual coffee and reading for about an hour. Then I headed outside to stain the blanket ladder I put together last week. I raked the lawn while I was waiting for it to dry. Only 12 bags later and half my front lawn was done. 🙁 I headed back inside to read for a bit and re-arrange my spare bedroom to make room for the blanket ladder.

I then headed to Target for a little shopping, I had a gift card from Swagbucks so I got a few decorations and dog food. I went grocery shopping, got some food for the local food pantry, then headed back home. I made a quick lunch then brought the ladder upstairs to decorate it. I really liked how it came out. Seamus got his blanket washed and he made quick work of kicking it off the couch and burrowing into it on the floor. Little bugger.

Sunday
The rest of the night was reading, watching Christmas movies, and procrastinating with cookies!!!
