A Day In My Life

I have seen these types of posts all over blogland and Lauren reminded me I haven’t done one yet, so I decided to finally try and document at least one day in my life so you can see, what a normal day looks like for me. So here we go….

Wake Up: I was jolted up and didn’t realize it was on video so you get a screenshot from the video. My alarm is set for 4:45am. Seamus was running around to help wake me up earlier, because 2 minutes count.

Alarm
4:45 – 5:00 a.m. – Walk Seamus then I feed him when we get home. I make coffee.

Morning Walk
5:00 – 6:00 a.m. – Read and/or blog. I sit with my coffee and read. If I have a post to publish I try to get online by 5:45 and publish and read a few blogs until 6 a.m. or so.

reading

6:00 a.m. – 6:15 or 6:20 a.m. – Breakfast and Lunch. I make my breakfast, which was a protein shake then I “make” my lunch. Normally this is just my salad since i like it fresh. I switched the Larabar for a Greek Yogurt.

lunch
6:20 – 6:30 a.m. – Take a shower – Self explanatory

6:30 – 6:45 a.m. – Read – See previous book picture

6:45 – 6:55 a.m. – Hair and Makeup.

makeup
6:55 – 7:00 a.m. – Grab my lunch from the fridge, say goodbye to Seamus. He was a little sadder than normal and wouldn’t give me hugs. The long weekend threw him off. 🙁

Seamus
7:00 – 8:00 a.m. – Commute to work – One time my clock got off schedule and I decided to keep it. So it’s set fast 17 minutes so even if I’m late, I am still early. Yes, I need to dust my car.

clock

8:00 – Work Time Begins. I set out all my daily needs out of my bag. Make a cup of tea. If I get in early I will try to read a few blogs.

work

8-8:45 a.m. Listen to Podcast. Call Your Girlfriend

9:30ish – Mid Afternoon Snack. Grapefruit

9:30-10:30 a.m. Listen to Dave Ramsey Podcast

11-11:30 – Work Sponsored – Decorate Your Own Mardi Gras Mask. I didn’t paint one but we got to vote for the top 3

Work-1

Noon – Lunch time. Eat my lunch while reading blogs and responding to comments

3:30ish – Afternoon Snack. Greek Yogurt

work-2
4:30-5:30 p.m – Commute Home. I stopped at Target which is right off the Highway to pickup a new Humidifier

Target

5:30-5:45 p.m. Take Seamus for a Walk

Seamus-walk

5:45 pm – 6 p.m. Workout in my Basement – Normally this is from 5:45-7p.m. however after 15 minutes I realized my foot is worse than I thought and I hobbled upstairs in pain. Took no pictures

6:00 – 7 p.m. – Decided it was perfectly acceptable to make cupcakes since the mix was due to expire soon. Waste not want not.

Cupcakes
7 – 8 p.m. Make Dinner – Cuddle with Seamus – Check Social media. Make fun of Seamus for trying to fit all his food in his mouth.

Seamus-dinner
8 – 10 p.m – Reserved for catching up on blog reading, finish any posts for the next day or week. I usually have something I’ve DVR’d in the background. Married at First Sight was last night. Total Guilty Pleasure

blogging
10 – Whenever – Bedtime. I go upstairs after letting Seamus out back on last time, wash my face, brush my teeth, refill my humidifier then get in bed to read.

reading at night
Lights Out. Yes, that means I get just under 6 hours of sleep. Ugh!

bedtime

With that you have a day in my life. Somethings vary from day to day, but it looks very typical.

What would a typical day look like for you?

Is it Spring yet?

Well I actually have work off today for the holiday so the relaxing will continue, actually more like cleaning my house and doing chores like a madwoman but details details. We got another 16 inches of snow, but luckily it wasn’t as heavy so it wasn’t so bad. I did have a lot of avalanches when I tried to plow though which made it a little harder. I hear more snow is coming on Tuesday, I just give up.

I Did

I wanted to get a lot of chores out of the way before the snow started so I went to the pet store, Lowe’s, grocery shopping, and the gas station. I felt so good about getting everything done I decided to vacuum the downstairs.

As I was bringing the vacuum down the stairs I tripped down the last few steps. I have lived in my house just two weeks shy of five years and fell down my stairs a total of two times, both times happened in the last four months. What is up with my balance?! The socks didn’t help the matter.

Since Seamus woke me up everyday at 4:45am I took a nap once or twice a day.

After two hours of plowing snow on Sunday I just wanted to get warm so I got some hot chocolate and my book and bunkered down. I did fall asleep at one point.

For Valentine’s I popped some Champagne and watched some love stories including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Legends of the Fall, and Gentleman Prefer Blondes. The classics!

weekend-2

Sorry for the foot picture but seriously it was so bruised and swollen I couldn’t help it. The bruising actually goes around to the bottom of my toe too. Also had some bruising on my shin. Such a klutz.

weekend-3

Seamus Sightings

Seamus-3
Seamus was my Valentine and he was very snuggly. He gave me a wink and a smile so I couldn’t ask for more.

Seamus-4
Sometimes Seamus let’s me hold him like a baby, and you know he is relaxed when the tongue goes limp. The snow pictures have to be one of my recent favorites of Seamus. So precious.

How was your weekend?

Friday Favorites | Valentine

Happy Friday!! This week has felt really long so I am glad it is Friday. The long weekend should be really nice, though we are expecting another blizzard so we shall see what actually gets done. Those are the days when candles get lit, and books get read, or Netlfix binges happen. Let’s get this Friday started.

Favorite Recipe: A cute recipe for Valentine’s Day.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Shortcakes - Homemade Heart Shaped Shortcakes are topped with hot fudge, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream!!! YUM.

Favorite Outfit: I have boots similar to these but in light brown so I could make this outfit work.

Soft pink and grey fall outfit. Not sure about the white pants but live the rest, especially that scarf

Favorite DIY: How cute is this and so simple.

Reclaimed Barn Wood and Vintage Salvaged Door Handle Towel Holder. I would think this would be so easy to make yourself! You could even get a pallet, cut it to desired size and stain to your desired color. Then find a nice rustic handle! I'm going to make 2 smaller ones for hand towels & a larger one for the bath towels.

Random Acts of Kindness Week

I know it’s been awhile since I have shared a Random Act of Kindness but International Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 9-15, 2015. While I haven’t stopped doing Random Acts of Kindness, I just haven’t shared them since they didn’t seem extraordinary enough to share. However this past week I came across a post while experiencing the rabbit hole that is Facebook last Saturday.

It lead me to the website Donors Choose where teachers can ask for certain supplies like books, technology or for field trips. You can also choose to find a class near you to help which was what I did.

Books

Source

As a very avid reader I couldn’t imagine my life without reading everyday. For kids it can open up their imagination, offer them an escape, or just show them different ways life could be. For kids in a high poverty area that could possibly be overlooked, one teacher decided to find them books that are easier to read for their reading level but wasn’t childish. What a gift for those kids.

 Books-2a

Thanks to the Kernels of Kindness grant I received I was able to make a decent sized donation to the cause. A few hours later they reached their goal. What an amazing feeling to be able to help those kids find the joy in reading.

Books-1a

It is so evident how much this teacher cares from the comments and posts she provided to each donor. Such a great cause.

Do you plan on doing a Random Act of Kindness this week?

Are you considering doing your own Act of Kindness? If not, what is stopping you? Grab a button if you would like to spread the word. The change that we seek in others has to first come from within. This year I hope you decide to Be the Change You Seek.

January Books I’ve Read

First I apologize this is a long one. I read 11 books this month. One was a did not finish, but the others were pretty good. I think some were shorter than others making them move quicker. Hopefully you find some books to add to your to read list! Here are the books I read:

My rating system:

Five Stars: Blew me away, made me want to stay up till 3am to finish, would read again and again.

Four Stars: Really good book, fast paced or thought provoking

Three Stars: Okay, didn’t thrill me but didn’t disappoint me either.

Two Stars: I almost didn’t finish, it may have irritated or offended me in some way.

Five Stars

Once Loved:  While this isn’t classic literature I really enjoyed it. You have Lety with her abusive alcoholic father who ruined her financing for college, and Brody the seemingly perfect boy with perfect grades. They tried once to make it work and failed but he is not letting her go this time. In order for them to work Brody must tell Lety his secrets, and Lety needs to break down the walls she has kept to high. Read the first book first, my thoughts on this one here.

four stars

Me Before You: This book got so many good reviews I felt I had to read it. Lou takes a job working for Will a quadriplegic who has a quick wit but is also depressed about his condition. Lou wants to quit immediately but since she is the main breadwinner of her family she sticks it out. She decides to prove to Will that life is worth living, and Will pushes her to pursue her passions. I think the hype of this book made me like it a smidge less than i might have otherwise, and I figured out the ending a quarter of the way in.

The Rosie Project: Don is a socially awkward professor of genetics. After deciding the probability that there is someone for him, he comes up with a detailed questionnaire for his Wife Project. He wonders why he never makes it past the second date. Rosie seeks out Don to help find her biological father and gets confused as a potential suitor.  Don is brutally honest, and logical to a fault he is quite an endearing character. Overall funny, quirky and really sweet story.

The Rosie Effect: I received this book from the publisher for review so I read the Rosie Project. This book continues Don and Rosie’s story after they married, moved to New York and find out that Rosie is pregnant. Don’s reaction to the news leads Rosie to worry he doesn’t want to be a father. Don’s research leads him in hot water. His quirky and sweet manner in which he tries to fix everything is so sweet, but also hilarious.

4 Stars-1

Dangerous: Detective Martell takes it upon herself to chase down the sexual predator known as Angel even though she has been suspended from the case. After two women have died by his hand she can’t let it go. After her neighbor’s daughter gets kidnapped by Angel she enlists the help of Drago to help find him before it’s too late. The race is on to find her, while trying to resist each other. The chase is fast paced and intense. The chemistry is hot! Great read!

The Power of 100!: I have sung the praises of this post many times and even shared my Career & Finance goals and my Travel Goals. This books tells the story of the author struggling back from an assault and a horrific car accident to make his life what he always wanted it to be. He uses the book as a workbook to guide you to how to get life balance, setup your list of 100 goals and how to structure them. Better then most self-help type books have read.

DIY Nut Milks, Nut Butters & More: In my quest to eat less processed foods, I really enjoyed the recipes to make my own nut butters and granola.

 three stars

3 Stars

The List:  This was a light fun, cute read. Phoebe caught her boyfriend cheating, she decides to create a sexual bucket list. She enlists her best friend to help her in her no strings attached sexual revolution. The end was a little rushed but the relationship between the friends was entertaining.

The Undertaker’s Daughter: This book left me feeling a little weird. I didn’t get the point but had to remind myself it is a memoir, so it doesn’t necessarily wrap up all perfect in a bow. It also is told from the daughter’s perspective so you don’t get the why and how of the other member of the family. Kate is exposed to the rituals of the dead at an early edge. Her father’s infidelity and alcoholism is hidden by his charismatic personality, while fighting for control of the funeral business of a small town. Race relations during the 60’s are discussed as a back drop to the story.

A Thing of Beauty: Fiona is a former child star who buys a big mansion after getting out of rehab. She has grand plans to restore it to it’s glory however ten years later it is filled with hoardes of  “treasures” she has found in thrift shops or the trash. Desperate for cash she takes in a border named Josia, who helps her see life in a different way. She begins to find her life again, and back to finding happiness. A few story issues that hopefully gets worked out but overall good read.

 Did Not Finish

The English Breakfast Murder: I added this as part of a book challenge and it was so boring and drawn out I just couldn’t finish. Too much tea, not enough mystery.

What books have you read this month?

Will you add any of these books to your list?

Linking up with Steph and Jana for this months reads.
