Boo-tiful Weekend

Well my favorite holiday has come and gone which makes me sad. Though this means that Christmas movies will be on 24/7 and I am not mad about that at all. This is my favorite time of year. All the hope, love and good cheer really energizes me so I am excited. Yes it’s busy but it is also magical. I am just going to embrace it all.

I Did

Halloween
Friday I dressed up at work and I took a picture in the Target parking lot. I freaked out more than a few people there, it was hilarious. Then I watched a few of the Saw movies to add some inspiration.

Saturday I started the morning with some coffee and a book. I knew I was going to be gone most of the day so it was a nice way to start the day. I headed down to my Dad’s house around noon, so I could decorate his yard and get dressed up. I passed out candy for the night and ironically my Dad had on Xmas movies when it wasn’t on sports.

I made one kid cry and made at least 5 kids gasp in surprise and fear. It was epic.

food prep
Sunday was relaxing, spending the morning reading. I also had some shopping to do so I hit Old Navy, Marshall’s and then grocery shopping. I added another Reindeer to my collection.

After a nap on the couch in between more reading I did some food prep. I made two batches of Paleo Meatloaf and some Broccoli pie. Broccoli pie is my favorite dish that we have on Thanksgiving and it is a great way to use up the 4 bags of broccoli I had in my freezer. Win!

Seamus Sightings

Seamus channeled his inner E.T. but this angel is also a pretty cute devil.

Friday Favorites | Home Sweet Home

This week has gone by so quickly! I am finally home from my work trip and it was so good to see Seamus. I got plenty of puppy kisses last night. I am dressing up today for work and hoping I am not the only one, though I do know at least one more person is dressing up. It is hard when it falls on a weekend. I am looking forward to freaking people out though on my drive into work. Well let’s get to my favorites from the week, shall we?!

Broken Record

I am going to try and keep it short today because I feel like a broken record. Work is crazy and my feelings of being overwhelming with tasks to finish have not gone away. I have a work trip this week so I most likely won’t be posting much this week.

This weekend was all about trying to get caught up on house things. Just the basics but so very necessary.

I Did

Saturday I started the morning with a trip to the vet for Seamus to get his nails clipped. They were so impressed with how good he was, gold star! Proud Mamma.

When I got home I immediately went to my basement. It is separated into two rooms and one is used for storage since I don’t have a garage. It houses all my holiday decorations, china dishes, all my tools and my kayak. It was a mess and piled up with stuff I didn’t put away properly and because the kayak was in the middle of the room making it hard to reach things. I moved on of the racks and moved the kayak to one side. It is so much more accessible. This picture was taken mid cleanup. Let’s just say I need a yard sale once I am home long enough for someone to pick it up.

After I went outside to rake my lawn. It took a few hours and then Sunday it rained and doesn’t even look like I even raked. Grrr.

After taking Seamus for a walk and a quick shower I headed out for some shopping. I was looking for some birthday presents for upcoming friends birthdays but my body was so sore I didn’t get much done.

weekend

This book….this book. It broke me down in so many ways. I literally cried at least ten times while reading this book. When I finished I went to Facebook to keep updated on some of the groups mentioned and made a donation. It is a story about Greg Mahle, who drives down to the South every two weeks to bring adoptable dogs up North with his pet transport business. He is not just a driver, he really cares about each and every dog. He is a hero, and throughout the book they talk about all the other unsung heroes who do so much to help the dogs who otherwise wouldn’t make it.

The overpopulation in the Louisiana and Texas area and the high euthanasia rate was astounding, up in the 90% in some cases.  The heroes would use their own money, and open up their own homes just to save one more dog. They also worked full time jobs on top of working tireless to help the dogs.

The Forgotten Dogs of the Fifth Ward group go around and feed stray dogs, sometimes digging in and around dumpsters. They are not a shelter so they try and connect with others in the area to help those they can when possible. This video shows just how dedicated they are about helping dogs.

Seamus Sightings

Can you imagine if the shelter hadn’t rescued this little ball of cuteness? He was one that people thought would be there long term. Fearful of strangers he barked and lunged at everyone through his kennel. Little did they know he is a lovebug. Their loss, my gain.

Friday Favorites | No rest

Happy Friday! It was a rough one since I had to move to a temporary location at work as they build new desks to accommodate more people (always a good thing) and it was only for a few days, but very distracting. Everything is just packed in bins so it is hard to find what I need.

Monday I will move back and Tuesday another road trip. Fingers crossed I get everything done today I need to or I may bring work home. fEnough about me, let’s get back to what you really came here for, Friday Favorites.

I would like to take this moment to thank you, bull-shitters who cheat off my tests, assholes who treat me like shit and divas who spend more time fixing their hair than breathing... ♥ Thank you :):

Stuffed Apple Pie Cupcakes with Brown Sugar Cinnamon Icing- super simple cupcake stuffed with apple pie filling and topped with an amazing icing.

Why Not Me? | Book Review

Well things have been getting really hectic at work so I am having less and less time lately to do much. Having a fun book that made me laugh was a nice reprieve from all the stress. Mindy’s new book Why Not Me? had a lot of laughs but it had some really serious moments too.

She has such an interesting way to look at life and she pokes a lit fun at how ridiculous hollywood is and that normal woman just don’t live that way. I applaud her for being real and sharing the good and the bad.

Review: As I think is common with most comedian books, I think their main objective is for you to read the book and end up thinking “I could be best friends with this person” and Mindy succeeded.

I had no idea that she was from Massachusetts which was an awesome factoid. I love that she shared the embarrassing and not always glamorous side of her job. I also love that she talks about how it was all her hard work that got her to where she is now. That aligning herself with the right people to mentor her and to learn from was one of the things that made her successful. I really liked the stories she told and the inside look. I would have much preferred to have listened to an audiobook version than read it since you don’t get her sarcastic undertones, but it did make me want to go watch the Mindy project.

I actually ended up binge watching the whole first season last weekend. I even got sucked into an hour long interview she did with one of her best friends B.J. Novak at BookCon.

Check out the summary and add it to your Goodreads.

*I was provided a free copy of the book via Blogging For Books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
