Reflection – The Hardest Post I’ve Ever Written

growth

SOURCE

Today is a day of self reflection. You know those moments when you feel so overwhelmed, everything is breaking all at once, nothing is going as you planned? That is when I put my foot in my mouth, saying the wrong thing, acting in a way I am not proud of, spending the majority of the week in tears. That is when you have to quiet your mind, be brave and grow.

My whole life it was expected of me to be great, to be perfect. Wait scratch that, I think maybe not expected but more so felt I had to be. Life isn’t perfect, people aren’t perfect, situations aren’t perfect, I AM NOT PERFECT. I know that I am not. My job may demand it at times but I too make mistakes, I too learn something new everyday. I struggle with remembering that on days when too much is happening, when demands are high.  Stress seems to be lurking around every corner. On days when every phone call seems to be a call to arms on my patience.

Today is my day to sit in reflection and to work on solutions to those moments. Working on how I deal with those moments. How I may grow and be a better person. One of my goals for this year was to read or listen to 12 self-help/personal development books and they may range from money, health, business, communication and relationships. This weekend I will be knocking one of my list to help me grow.

Admitting your faults is so extremely hard and painful to admit, at least for me. Without admitting them though you can’t find solutions to them. I may stumble, I may forget but I will promise to myself to always try to be better than I was yesterday. I hope everyone will too? What things can you do to better? Are you working on the solution?

This is the hardest thing I have ever had to write so if you are going to comment, please be kind. It was tough. I challenge everyone to reflect on things that we struggle with and find a way to deal differently and grow.

Friday Letters

Dear Seamus – I love you! You always make me smile and when you are a big cuddle monster you make my bad days better.

dog-1a

Dear New Gym – I think we will be the best of friends. Just two minutes from my house and you have a sauna, steam room, a pool, and no wait times for machines.

Dear Friday – Oh how I have been impatiently awaiting your arrival after a really trying week. It may be a busy weekend but a weekend none the less.

Dear Sewing Machine – I will be taking you out of your two month hibernation for some projects so wakey wakey eggs and bakey.

Dear Cold Weather – I loathe you, whatever happened to the groundhog seeing his shadow and the early spring?! YOU SIT ON A THRONE OF LIES!!

That is all!! Go enjoy the weekend, I dare you! 🙂 Go on over to The Sweet Season for the linkup!

Saw It. Pinned It. Did It. – Spinach Cakes

Happy Thursday everyone!! Who is ready for the weekend? (I imagine everyone is raising their hands, am I right?)

On any given day I can consume up to a bag and a half or two of veggies. Being able to disguise some of them in the form of a “burger” or “cake” is okay by me!!! Enter in these little gems. Do they not look delish or what?!

Source: thevillagecook.com viaKerry on Pinterest

You will need:

1 bag of thawed and well drained chopped spinach ~ 2 egg whites ~ 1 whole egg ~ 1/4 c diced onion ~ 1/2 c shredded cheese ~ 1/2 c bread crumbs (I used a lower carb option crouton) ~ 1 tsp salt ~ 1/2 tsp garlic powder
*I added a bit more onion and measured croutons whole before crumbling.

20130313-211333.jpg

Mix all the ingredients into a bowl, and form your patties. You have the option of doing rather than cakes I just prefer the cakes for even crispness.

Place on a heated skillet on Medium, spray with a non-stick spray and cook for about 4-6 minutes on each side or until desired crispness. Keep a close eye on those suckers. The second side always seems to go quicker for me.

Then plate and enjoy. I added a little of Tzaziki on top which is super low calorie and tastes amazing. Feel free to anything else you want like salsa. Hope you enjoy!!

Weekend Update

This weekend started off with more snow, in which I ended up pulling a muscle in my back using my snow plow, so it was a very low-key weekend for me. I went shopping, duh even with a bad back this can be accomplished though I do not recommend it. I ended up having to bend down and breathe deeply in the middle of the mall, till the pain subsided. I got a few weird looks for that one! Oh well! Sunday was spent prepping all my food for the week. Spring is coming and summer not to far behind so time to get my beach body ready!!

IMAG1223

1. I have been looking for a new purse for months, I wanted something with pockets on the outside for my phone and I actually wanted black or brown since I don’t switch purses based on outfits. Then I saw this beauty and couldn’t resist…Yellow is my favorite color!

2. Shoe shopping was next and these were not what I was looking for but at 70% off I couldn’t resist. Love them!!

3. My back was really acting up after that shopping trip and so it was a lazy night with a heating pad, wine and a movie. That movie getting me laughing every time.

4. Sunday was even more lazy. I didn’t leave the house all day. Took a few naps and some pain pills. Seamus woke me up with his heavy breathing and death stare. I think he wanted more food. Isn’t he so adorable?!

5. Sunday is my meal prep day so I had my steak in the crock pot, chicken in the oven then I steamed a bunch of veggies. I love starting the week with one less thing to worry about.

What did you do this weekend? Would love to hear from you.

Dear Friday

Dear Snow – I think we should break-up, it’s not me it’s YOU! Dear Plow truck driver – Think you might want to do the road instead of the breakdown lane? Maybe then we won’t need the breakdown lane….m’kay, thanks! Dear Friday – I love you! If only it’s because it means that I get to live in my yoga pants all weekend. I may even try to get some workouts in. Dear New Purse – Oh how I have been searching everywhere for you. It took me months and many stores but I finally found you! I was looking for a purse with outside pockets for my phone and my ipod so I can quickly pull them out for workouts, and the fact that yellow is my favorite color was just the icing on the cake! I shall wear you proudly. Dear 50 Shades of Grey – You disappoint me. It took me like a year to finally read the series and while I am only beginning the third book I was quite disappointed. Women were supposedly running over each other to get this book, meme’s were created stating the repopulation of America over how steamy these books were supposed to be. It was pretty tame compared to other books I have read. This doesn’t mean I didn’t like them, just I was expecting more due to the hype.  Dear New Recipe Books – Look forward to creating some new healthy dishes, like orange chicken, pineapple, zucchini kabobs? That just might happen. Dear Stress Induced stomach-ache – I can’t believe how much you smacked me down on Wednesday, but I promise to take better care of myself and just might actually do some yoga in my yoga pants. Just kidding! I will try to stress less though, with some wine!

Peace out peeps! Enjoy the weekend. Go on over to The Sweet Season for the linkup!

Shoulder Workout

This week I am not going to the gym!! Say what?! I live at the gym. Unfortunately my gym is currently a source of stress rather than a source of release. The gym has had an influx of New Years resolution gym goers and has yet to die down. While I love that people are deciding to get healthy and are continuing to go to the gym, my gym just is not designed with that many people to be in one small space. Or should I say parking spaces!

I had to drive around in circles three times to find a parking spot last week and I just had enough. I want to work off my stress not create more. So I am working out at home until I can research a few more gyms in my area. I have a ton of Beachbody programs to use in the meantime and I luckily have a home gym that gives me the space to do my workouts. I will be using a mix of Insanity, Turbo Fire, and Les Mills Combat to get the heart rate up and will also be using my free weights as well. With that I thought I would share my shoulder workout I will be incorporating to build my arms up for the spring/summer. Tank top season is coming!!

I will be doing this workout 2x a week:

Arnold Dumbell Press – 3 sets of 12 reps

Rear Delt Raises – 3 sets of 12 reps
Seated Bent-Over Rear Delt Raise Bodybuilding.com

Front Dumbell Raise – 3 sets of 12 reps

Side Lateral Raises – 3 sets of 12 reps

One Arm Palms in Dumbell Press – 3 sets of 12 reps
Standing Palm-In One-Arm Dumbbell Press Bodybuilding.com

Military Press – 1 set of 15 (lighter weight) 2 sets of 8 reps (HEAVY) 1 set of 12 (Moderate weight) – Can be performed with a bar or dumbbells
Dumbbell Shoulder Press Bodybuilding.com

Upright Row – 1 set of 15 (lighter weight) 2 sets of 8 reps (HEAVY) 1 set of 12 (Moderate weight) – Can be performed with a bar or dumbbells

Remember form is key, go heavy enough to really push yourself but not too heavy that you lose the proper form.  Modify when you have to, use the equipment you have.

*Disclaimer I am not a personal trainer. I am sharing what exercises I have used and will be using. Seek a trainer if you have any concerns on proper technique or form. Use at your own risk.
